How to Play Minecraft on Meta (Oculus) Quest And Quest 2

To play Minecraft on your Quest you will require VR-ready hardware and an internet link cable. You can play both Bedrock and Java versions of Minecraft using the link cable.

This article will teach you how to play Minecraft with your Oculus Quest and Quest 2 virtual reality headsets. We have instructions for both Java and Bedrock versions of Minecraft.

Can You Play Minecraft on Meta (Oculus) Quest or Quest 2?

For the Rift VR headset there is an official Minecraft Bedrock edition. However, Quest and Quest 2 do not support Minecraft. You can still play Minecraft on this platform but only if you have a VR-ready PC and a link cable. Your PC runs the Minecraft application and transmits visual data to the headset which allows players to play Minecraft in VR in the event that you are connected to your computer.

It is possible to play a few versions of Minecraft on your Quest, but the processes are a bit different. You will need to buy one of the versions in case you don't own the other.

These are the Minecraft versions you can play on Quest.

Windows 10 (Bedrock) edition This is the version of Minecraft that can be purchased from the Microsoft store. It has VR capabilities built-in and is simple to install and use, but this version can't be modded in the same way that the Java version can. Java edition The Java edition is the original Minecraft version. There are many mods online. It's a little more complicated to get this version running in VR because you'll need to install Java, Steam, and Steam VR in case you haven't done so already but the gameplay is more intriguing. For instance, you can, mine bricks by swinging your controllers.

How to Play Minecraft Bedrock Edition using Meta (Oculus), Quest or Quest 2

The Bedrock Edition is easy to start running in VR. You will need the Minecraft app, Oculus app, Oculus Rift Minecraft apps and an Oculus link cable to connect your Oculus to your PC.

This is not the full Minecraft app, it's just a free program that allows Minecraft Bedrock Edition to run in VR using Meta/Oculus hardware.

How to Play Minecraft Java Edition on Meta Oculus Quest or Quest 2

It's possible to play Minecraft Java Edition in VR through your Quest however it's more difficult. It requires a mod called Vivecraft that allows the Java edition of Minecraft to operate in VR. This VR implementation is more robust than the Bedrock one, and allows you to personalize your experience using a variety of options for interaction and motion.

To play Minecraft Java Edition on Quest, you need to install Java as well as install Steam and install Steam VR. If you don't have all three installed, make sure you install them prior to proceeding.

Here's how to play Minecraft Java Edition on a Quest:

Go to the download page of Vivecraft and click the latest version of Vivecraft.

Click vivecraft-x.xx.x-jrbudda-x-x-installer.exe and download the file.

Launch the file when it finishes downloading, and click Install.

The installation will fail if you haven't installed Java on your computer.

Click OK.

Start the Oculus app on your computer.

Connect your Quest headset to your computer using an extension cable.

Select to enable.

Locate Steam VR on your computer and then click Launch.

In the Steam VR interface in your headset, select the monitor icon.

If you have multiple monitors, select the one that Minecraft will run on.

If you select the wrong monitor, Minecraft will not appear on your virtual desktop following the next step. You can select a different monitor or repeat the previous step to select the correct monitor.
