Caves & Cliffs: Part II is currently being developed by Mojang as the next major Minecraft upgrade . You are able to test the latest world generation in a special version.
It's a significant change in the method Minecraft is built, so Mojang decided to do it differently. This Snapshot isn't available in the launcher, unlike normal testing. Instead, you should visit their blog explaining the process to find instructions and an option to download the Snapshot.
It's not impossible for things to change but here's what's the difference:
- New world heights and depths New mountain biomes (lofty peak, snowcapped peaks and meadows, groves, and snowy slopes). New cave formation (cheese and spaghetti caves) and local water levels. The new cave biomes are created naturally underground and inside mountains (lush caves or dripstone caves). - Natural variation in the shape of the terrain and elevation, independent from biomes. All about video games For example forests and deserts may form up on a hill without the need for a special biome just for that.
