Avanos Medical and the FDA have issued a Class 1 recall for 629 units of the CORTRAK*2 Entral Access System, a feeding tube placement device that is linked to dozens of accidents and deaths.
Cortrak 2 eternal access system The devices for recall were released between April 1, 2016 to January 1, 2022. https://www.nutritioncare.org/News/General_News/Nasoenteric_Feeding_Tube_Placement_and_Verification/ These devices can be utilized by health professionals to insert feeding tubes in the stomach or intestines.
Cortrak 2 eternal access system Nasogastric or Nasoenteric tubes that were placed incorrectly have resulted in the deaths of 23 people and 60 injury reports since 2015.
Avanos Medical feeding tube Cortrak 2 eternal access system This recall is utilized to rectify the information on the device to remind users to check that the tube was properly put in place before they could deliver food.
"Adverse incidents reported include respiratory failure, pneumothorax (collapsed lung) and perforation (a hole in the lung's wall, esophagus, or bowel), pneumonia (a lung infection), and an effusion of the pleura (excess fluid in the lung space and the chest cavity)," according to the FDA.
