Students Encouraged to Dream at Young Leaders Day

Live a 3D lifestyle. This is the challenge that inspirational New Zealand leaders set for the more than 2,000 students who attended the National Young Leaders Day (NYLD) held at the Vodafone Events Centre, Manukau earlier in the day.

Students were taught by Silver Fern and Northern Mystics player Laura Langman, athlete and Carabiner Mentoring Programme founder Cam Calkoen the adventurer and host of TV One's First Crossings series Jamie Fitzgerald who is the chief executive officer of The Mind Lab Frances Valintine and Attitude Programmes for Schools presenter Charlie Laumatia.

NYLD events challenge students to live a 3D experience by imagining, daring and developing their leadership potential.

"Just as when a 3D movie bursts off the screen it is the same with a 3D life is so much more exciting than a dull flat one," NYLD manager Annette Fale says.

"Imagine what your life might be like. Follow your dreams. Do the bold and terrifying things that make life exciting. Find your strengths - there is more in you waiting to be discovered. Nobody can live a successful life without vision, courage and hard work." students were told.

Frances Valintine was a driving force behind Media Design School. She opened The Mind Lab in Newmarket in 2013 as a facility that offers robotics and electronics programming, filmmaking, and science technology to children ranging from 4-15 years old.

Frances challenged the leaders of tomorrow to prepare for an ever-changing future.

"To prepare for the future, you need to open your mind - curiosity is your strongest asset not technology, not the way you play Minecraft but curiosity and exploration," Frances said, as the students took notes in their notebooks.

"Wake up in the morning and consider, how can I make things better, how can I improve things?"

The day was inspirational and enjoyable. A performance by the Laughing Samoans, interactive games and 3D video clips were highlights of the day.

Over 90,000 students from New Zealand have attended a National Young Leaders Day since 2001. minecraft-servers.live Every year, events are held in Auckland, Wellington, Palmerston North, Rotorua, Christchurch and Dunedin.
