Alison and Max are evidence that differences don't hinder friendship. Minecraft servers Max is always seeking new adventures, even when it means getting into trouble. Alison prefers to stick to the rules. But both are fascinated by the beaten-up old journal Max discovers and the bizarre gate that its mysterious author, the Enchanter, describes as a gate into a realm of danger called the Nether.
After creating the portal according to the journal's instructions Max and Alison argue about whether they should remain in the Overworld or venture into the Nether to find the Enchanter. . . until a fateful accident forces the decision for them.
Trapped in a scary new world, Max and Alison find an allies in Freya, a fierce warrior who lives in the Nether with her beloved Bunny Biter, a wolf. Max and Alison embark on a quest for the Enchanter with Freya's help and the clues they find in the pages from the mysterious journal. The Nether is testing their friendship and skills.
