Technoblade, 'Minecraft' YouTube Creator, Dies Aged 23

Technoblade the top Minecraft YouTuber, has passed away aged 23 following a battle with cancer.



The creator's father posted a moving video on YouTube on Thursday with the title "so long nerds," with the message written by Technoblade himself. The video had been planned with his family members during his final months, but it was written by Technoblade about eight hours before his death according to his father. The man disclosed his real name in the message: Alex.



"Hello everyone, Technoblade here. This is what you should be seeing. I am dead," he wrote in the message, which was read by his father. "Thank you to all of you who have supported my work throughout the years. If I had another hundred years I'm sure I'd prefer to be Technoblade over and over again because those were the most joyful years of my life."



In the video, his father says, "He was the most amazing kid anyone could ever want. I miss Technoblade."



Technoblade who has 10.8 million followers on YouTube announced his diagnosis of cancer on the platform in August 2021.



Technoblade's family issued a statement at the end of the video on Thursday.



"We as the family of Technoblade, wanted you all to know just how much he loved and respected his fans and colleagues. From Technoblade's earliest online days the founder was constantly figuring out ways to delight and reward his audience," it read.



"Even after his eventual successes he managed to maintain his good-natured modesty, competing with a charming balance between self-confidence and self-deprecation with. He was determined to keep his identity a secret and stayed away from fame. We ask you to respect his wishes to protect his privacy as well as the privacy of his family.



Technoblade's online store also includes an obituary in honor of him, explaining that a percentage of the profits from online orders will be donated to the Sarcoma Foundation of America. Technoblade's family will manage the store online. We know how much joy he has brought to the world over the years and we want to make sure that we continue spreading his message," it reads.



One of the items in the online store is a black T-shirt on sale that reads "so long nerds" followed by "Alexander 'Technoblade'" and "1999-2022" underneath.



Technoblade's friends and fans have posted further truly moving tributes to him online. Some are co-creators and collaborators while others have followed the YouTuber for years.



Hypixel, one of the Minecraft server for minigames, also uploaded an eloquent tribute to. He was a frequent participant on that server. Simon Collins-Laflamme, the founder and CEO of Technoblade has stated in a statement that he was "one of the most beloved YouTubers."



The post reads, "He will be remembered fondly but deeply missed," "He was a generous, talented, passionate young man with extraordinary potential. We are extremely grateful to him and thankful to have him as a prominent member of the community at large. In many ways, the success of many of us is directly related to the success of Technoblade.



The team also encouraged users to pay tribute on "any main lobby" on the server, with the permission of Technoblade's family.
