In May 2005 the video "A Rough Go" first was released on the World of Warcraft fan site WarcraftMovies.com. In the video the video, a group of Warcraft players are shown in the dungeon working to devise a detailed strategy for taking on the baby dragons in the next room. Suddenly, Schulz's character Leeroy Jenkinsseparates from the crowd. He disregards the meticulous planning of his team and plunges headfirst into the room and shouts his name out as a battle cry: Leeeroooooy Jeeenkins!" The actions of Leeroy led to the death of his entire team.

"A Rough Go" became a pop-culture phenomenon, it was featured on television shows like South Park, My Name is Earl, The Daily Show, and even Jeopardy! The idea of pulling a Leeroy quickly became synonymous with being the only person who, because of their own insanity and impulsiveness can sabotage a well-planned situation and causes the colossal failure of the goal they were working to achieve.



Although there was always suspicion that the video may have been staged however it took 12 years for Schulz to confirm that it was a joke. That didn't make the concept of Leeroy Jenkins, who is recklessly thrown into a situation-any less universal.



The Warcraftexpansion Warlords of Draenor included Leeroy Jenkins into the game as non-player characters. He was also included as a card in the official World of Warcraft Trading Card Game however playing this card can be detrimental to the player's team. Additionally Leeroy Jenkins is featured on a card in a different Warcraft universe spin-off game called Hearthstone, however summoning him grants a player's opponent two minions.
