These Minecraft Ancient City Redesigns Are Gloriously Green

Minecraft builders are rehabilitating the 1.19 update's cities from the past as if they never were destroyed.

As if the deep dark were not enough, brave builders are currently pulling off entire redesigns of Minecraft 1.19's huge new ancient cities. You know, just a bit of light construction in between other projects.

The massive structures that have been destroyed deep underground are spooky by default: ruined pillars that swathe the darkness, covered with sculk and the shriekers who are ready to summon an army of guards should you not be careful when you enter their territory.

Perhaps the wardens are just cranky because their homes are in disrepair. Fortunately, builders are renovating the ancient cities to their former splendor. Some have been completely renovated with lush cave plants to show they used to be thriving cities. Others have added lore of their own and light up the darkness with an abundance of bright blocks. At least one of them decided to keep the atmosphere spooky. Perhaps the old cities were always dangerous. The most bold of these builders have even completed their construction in a hardcore mode, not in a creative. I'm not going to do this.

These builds make use of the top Minecraft texture packs and shaders to produce vibrant auras. Here are some of the most creative and beautiful designs of the ancient city as well as hyperlinks to the creators. As always, this is the latest in amazing Minecrafting. We also have some amazing designs for desert temples, underwater bases as well as many other fantastic Minecraft designs.

Unsorted Guy restores an old city back to its former glory. In this build showcase (opens in a new tab), Unsorted Guy explains how he began by replacing all the sculk with deepslate blocks, transformed the ceilings into stalactites and then brought in tons of vines and leaves from the lush caves. In addition to restoring all the structures, Unsorted Guy relocates some grass blocks and digs out the pond, and even creates his own version of an old city farm. Minecraft This place truly was alive at one point. The final build has a mountain-city feel because of all the water.

The Andyisyoda reimagined city giving me big Atlantis impressions. There's a lot of greenery being added to this site. It's hard for us to believe that these underground cities were grey and uncolored.

The timelapse of the build shows Andyisyoda building incredible bridges over a layer of water, all dripping in vines. They managed to keep some of the spookiness alive by using the lava moat that runs around the giant portal. In the end, they've got an entire sunken city that is surrounded by towers, huge lush greenery and walls of light.

Fixxitt412 was able to design an entire city by hand, in hardcore survival mode. This means that there is no life after death. It took Fixxitt412 100 days. Fixxitt's build is also super green with flower gardens and farms, but they haven't completely eliminated all the sculk, which feels like a nice touch.

This building has a magical feel to it, with lots of lights and stained-glass emanating from the copper conduits that are at the top of the central portal. They even have houses for the villagers to live in complete darkness. I'm curious about how long they'll survive.

Another lush subterranean city was built by RandomGgames (opens in new tab) and OceanManRulesZaWardo. This one is more of an overgrown design perhaps even as abandoned as the old cities are. Like the other gorgeous green buildings, this one uses a variety of vines and leaves, bringing in some of the old glowstone blocks to light. The pair seem to have removed all sculk in the area and replaced it with wooden walkways, arches of deep slate and other landscaping elements.

This "build" is actually just two screenshots (opens in a new tab) but not a fully fleshed-out undercity, but it's a dang good image that I couldn't help to share it with everyone else in the room.

This is the total opposite of all the peaceful, green recreations of the ancient city. Seggie could have made this area more frightening than a Nether fortress had he ever did. The skull archway and the blue flames are very foreboding.

This is not an actual Minecraft build. This is an actual Lego set design that is based on the ancient cities created by Veyniac540 (opens in a new tab). But come on, that's an absolute delight. If you're looking to build it yourself, they've got the instructions and parts list (opens new tab). When you're done with Minecraft there are components and directions to guide you.
