The lungs fail, there is pneumothorax (collapsed lungs) perforation (a hole in one's esophagus or bowel wall), pneumonia, and excess fluid between the lungs (the chest cavity as well as the lungs) have all been among the injuries.
Avanos Medical described a plan for patients to receive a new labeling in order to confirm proper use of the nasogastric tube and nasoenteric tubes prior to use.
The Avanos warning is the second warning that the FDA issued in 2022 regarding the use of enteral feeding tubes.
