The blocky sandbox game that is so popular Minecraft is closing in on 54 million copies sold across all platforms, according to Mojang's Patrick Geuder, who also announced on Twitter that the console (Xbox 360 and PS3) versions of the game have outsold sales of PC and Mac versions. The game will be available on Xbox One, PS4 or Vita in August. The Vita version of the game is cross-buy compatible and free for players who own the PS3 version. Xbox One and PS4 owners who have the game installed on Xbox 360 or PS3 will be able download the latest version for $5.
The alpha version of Minecraft was released in May 2009. This was two years before the full release in November of 2011. Mojang and Markus "Notch", Persson who is the Minecraft creator have achieved a number of milestones in the sales. Recently, Mojang reported that 15 million copies were sold of the PC version. The Xbox 360 version sold 12 million copies, while the Pocket Edition for iOS or Android reached 21 million. [Image: Mojang]
