Old School RuneScape is available on Steam today.

Jagex have released Old School RuneScape on Steam with cross-platform advancement and a celebration to mark the game's 8th anniversary. With all this information about it absolutely filled me with nostalgia. The free-to-play fantasy MMORPG is an old version of RuneScape from 2007 that was relaunched as Old School RuneScape in 2013. Although it's been around for a long time, I haven't thought about it since I was a young girl in school. Lumbridge! Lumbridge! Grand Exchange! I'm not sure what to do and just fighting goblins in the forest! Oh no I think I'm planning to download it to Steam.

I'm not sure I was older than 12 when I first made my first RuneScape account, because I'm pretty sure I had to lie about my age in order to register (you have to be 13 or older to play) (also please don't read this, RuneScape police). It was the tutorial quests and the burning of the shrimp I caught in the river that remain my most vivid memories. And that was when it was called RuneScape.

Here's a trailer from 2009 which made me crumble into dust.

When you play on Steam it will be allowed to sign in with an Old School RuneScape Account. If you're a new player, you can log in with your Steam account. Runescape Servers It has cross-progression and play which means you'll be able to transfer your saved games to other platforms and play with pals who are on different platforms too.

Both the free-to-play and paid versions of OS RuneScape are available on Steam. Paying for it gives you access to more quests and other stuff. However, as far as I've seen the free version has plenty of content to explore. It also has achievements, trading cards and all the Steam Gubbins if your like collecting that kind of thing.

The game's debut on the platform of Valve coincides with the game's eight-year anniversary, so it's holding an in-game event where players can earn a cosmetic banana cape. According to the press release, Old School players will be gathering in Lumbridge the town that launched the game, to greet new Steam players. This sounds wonderful. While I'm not a big fan of MMOs I do miss the warmth and friendliness of the MMO players. I have fond memories of strangers in wild-looking armour helping me start when I played.

Old School RuneScape can be downloaded on Steam today. Or you can still play it on OldSchoolRuneScape.com, if you'd prefer.

Elsewhere in the realms of RuneScape, developer Jagex was recently acquired by a private equity firm, The Carlyle Group. They're reportedly looking to speed up the pace of production of content and to launch new games.
