How to Find Diamonds in Minecraft 1.19
To find Diamonds in Minecraft 1.19 You must dig deep
below Y=15
. After this point, the further you go, the greater the chance of finding Diamonds.
Minecraft 1.18 introduced a number of important changes to Minecraft's global generation. You can go down to Y=0 when you're playing Minecraft 1.18 or later. Below Y=0, you'll see all the usual ores, including Diamonds embedded in Deepslate blocks instead of regular Stone blocks.
See the below graph of the distribution of ore for more information on where you can find the most concentration of Diamonds and other resources:
Diamond starts generating at Y=15 and increases linearly in frequency the further you go. To know what Y-Level you're on, hit F3 to bring up the display of coordinates. The second number after "XYZ" is the current level of the bottom part of your body.
If a Diamond will be placed near an open-air block during world generation and it is not likely to produce. This makes it harder to locate diamonds in caves. You'll have to spend some time digging through the earth to increase your chances of finding diamonds.
Summary: To quickly find diamonds, dig as low as you can until you reach bedrock. Then, you can begin strip-mining!
How to find Diamonds in Minecraft 1.17 and earlier
If you're still playing Minecraft 1.17 or earlier, then you'll be able to find Diamond Ore in every Overworld biome between Y-levels 1-15.
They usually are born between levels between 5 and 12.
These are the best levels to ensure you have the best chance of finding Diamonds.
No matter which version of Minecraft you are using, diamonds will appear in tiny veins that can hold that can be as high as 9 blocks per turn. However, you could occasionally find larger veins that are made up of multiple veins that connect each one. Diamonds are scarce even when they're at the right level.
Best method for mining Diamonds in Minecraft
Only an Iron Pickaxe can be used to mine diamond ore
Or better. Diamonds are less common in open areas such as caves. To increase your chances of finding Diamonds on Minecraft you must strip-mine in straight lines.
Dig down to level 57, and build a 2-block-tall tunnel that runs in all directions. This is the best method to mine Diamonds using Minecraft 1.19. Then start to mine out on either side of the 2x1 tunnels, leaving a 2-block gap between each tunnel.
Once you are satisfied that you have removed all Diamonds from the level, you are able to continue the process to level 53. If you go about digging this manner at both levels -57 and -53, then you'll be able see all Diamonds that form between levels -58 and -51. This will give you the greatest concentration of Diamonds without having to constantly cross blocks of Bedrock that could otherwise hinder the strip-mining process.
If you're playing Minecraft 1.17 or earlier, you can apply the exact same method using levels 6 and 10.
While mining is a good idea to keep a water Bucket with you, because pockets of lava are quite common at these levels. Be sure to carry plenty of torchlights for illumination and to stop mobs from spawning inside your tunnels. Alternatively you could illuminate your way with Night Vision potions - though this won't prevent mobs from spawning.
