Azeroth Interrupted - the Couple who Plays Together, Stays Together

First, I apologize for not writing last week. While I'm good at managing WoW with my real life, I'm not great in managing illness. I'm feeling better and am eagerly anticipating a WoW date with my husband after having not played for one week.



Are you smiling right now? Are you not averse to virtual romantic outings? If you don't think that playing an online game makes you a bit of a nerd, go argue it out with Gabe. We'll all be there for you if we're content with our geekiness. Whatever geeky you are sharing a hobby is an excellent way for couples to stay in touch, particularly when it's a time-consuming activity like WoW.



We're not talking about couples who are only starting relationships. WoW dating is a different subject I'll be discussing in a future column. I've already talked about getting a wife or girlfriend to play WoW, and this is for couples who already play WoW. I'm not saying that dates with WoW should be replaced with romantic dinners or other typical activities. But romantic "outings" in WoW are an enjoyable, low-cost method to complement the other activities couples do to keep things interesting. Spend time with your loved ones in any way you like, but it's important to focus on the fundamentals to get the most enjoyment out of it.



Make an appointment Make a schedule for an appointment time and date in advance and don't be late. Both of you will appreciate having something to look forward too and the flexibility to plan around the session. Don't "play it by your ear". This can make the person who is ready first feel neglected waiting for the other person to be "available".



Choose the game's content when you plan the time you don't want to take your time deciding on what to do. If you wait until the last minute, one of you may be in the mood to level up alts, while the other is more inclined to engage in PvP. You won't be influenced by momentary whims, and it is much less likely to cause a mess by arguing. Do not have two people aroundyou: Keep the conversation to yourself. This will allow you to be able to distinguish your time with your friends from the time you spend with them as well as any guild events that you might be involved in. One method to ensure you don't upset guild members and other online friends is to create characters on a separate server from your main server. This will also keep you in good standing with your guild leader in the event that he or she requires all online guildies to participate in any event currently scheduled.



Do not forget to do your in-game chores an hour before your date. This is meant to be time spent together playing, not checking the mail or checking your mail or getting your character to the appropriate questing zone. Also, if you finish your chores before your scheduled time, you won't have to worry about waiting for hearthstone timers or goodies to arrive in the mail. Send an item of gift! Optional: Drop an e-card in your partner's mailbox with a sweet/loving/sexy gift. This isn't necessary in the event that you've had a fight recently or one of you really messed up. This is a great option to take if you're the type of guy who sends flowers and gifts to your first date. It will bring back the feelings you shared when you first became lovers. While in-game gifts aren't expensive (or should they be) but they can be just as meaningful as other gift related to hobbies. Just as your dad might appreciate a new pair of bowling shoes or a set of golf club cozies your husband might want that alchemy recipe he has been looking for in the AH. Personally, I cherish the Golden Dragonhawk Hatchling my spousal unit gave me and have an original in my bank. I know the note and present will not last as long as my desire to continue playing WoW, but flowers and chocolates last a lot less time. Chocolate, mmmmm.



These easy steps will make your play-date as enjoyable as a regular date. This will allow you to have a different experience with WoW every time and make it exciting.
