Axolotls can also be bred with buckets of tropical fish. When you have two adult Axolotls you can feed them both with the tropical fish. Once they're in love, you will see red hearts. What a sweet gesture.



The resulting baby axolotl will inherit the colour of one of its parents at random and take 20 in-game minutes to mature. You can speed up the process by using more tropical fish.

Minecraft axolotls can be found in the following colors:



- Lucy (pink)


Wild (brown).


- Gold


- Cyan


Blue


The blue axolotl, which is one of the rarest colours and has a 0.083% chance to spawn either naturally or through breeding of adult axolotls to other colors. If you have your heart set on the blue axolotl you will need patience and more luck than you would normally.





What they eat


What is the diet of axolotls?

Axolotls consume tropical fish, which are generally found in marine biomes. If you're planning to feed an axolotl you'll need an entire bucket of tropical fish instead of single ones you've previously caught.



Since tropical fish can get scared easily, they can be quite difficult to capture in a bucket, and therefore patience is essential. In any case, it's worth checking to check whether the Wandering Trader has a bucket of tropical fish available for sale.





Combat






Are axolotls capable of attacking other mobs with their axes?

These adorable creatures aren't a threat to players but they will take on sea-based threats. While they will leave turtles and dolphins alone, everything else is fair game. They'll even fight a drowned.



They also have a smart defense mechanism: If an Axolotl is damaged in the water it will die and get Regeneration. The Regeneration status effect may be transferred to a player when killing a mob the which the axolotl was fighting.
