Online Game Final Fantasy: Players Attend The Funeral Procession

After one of their players was killed by coronavirus hundreds of players attended the Final Fantasy funeral procession.



Friends of the character referred to as Ferne Le'roy organized the funeral following the death of his human counterpart died from the virus.



After an exchange on Reddit Ferne's Final Fantasy group decided to honor the player with mourners gathering in the desert city of Ul'dah on the game's Zalera server.

Ferne's player, Poppy Rose, was also present to join the players on the Coeur server.



The crowd, which appeared to be in the hundreds, was dressed primarily in black funeral attire.



Ferne's Final Fantasy group decided that the player should be honored following a Reddit discussion. There were mourners who were gathered in the desert city of Ul'dah on Zalera's Zalera server.

The procession started in the middle of the night, and travelled across various lands as the sun rose including the forested areas of the Central Shroud, to the north of the desert. The journey took about 30 minutes.



The procession ended beneath the Guardian Tree the sacred place in the woods.



The game's Twitter community expressed shock at the sheer number of people who joined the procession.



One wrote: "The #FFXIV community never ever ceases to amaze me. This memorial service was a huge success due to the large turnout. My eyes couldn't handle this crowd! Let the deceased player rest in peace. My condolences go out to everyone affected. Everyone, stay safe!



The crowd was believed to be in the hundreds, was dressed primarily only in funeral-appropriate dark.



Another participant commented, "This was my first experience with something like this." There were people who took up 2-3 zones of the base game which are large in general. Many people came to express condolences as well as support to their fellow adventurers, their families, and their friends.



The Final Fantasy funeral procession comes about a month after a group of Japanese school children held their graduation ceremony in Minecraft after coronavirus concerns resulted in the cancelation of the ceremony held on campus.
