Minecraft Says It Doesn't Want Anything to have to do with Blockchain, NFTs, or NFTs.

While some industries are still weighing in on NFTs but the videogame community is stating that NFTs stand as "No F'n Thank" in their industry.



The latest company to stand up against non-fungible tokens is Mojang Studios, the developer of the immensely loved video game Minecraft.



In a statement released today on the official Minecraft website, titled simply "Minecraft and NFTs," the company made it crystal clear that it will not allow any sort of blockchain or NFT integration into its game.



Mojang Studios and Minecraft laid out a number of reasons for why they are opposed to NFTs. They also stated that fake shortages play an important role in the process. NFTs, also known as non-fungible tokens are basically digital assets kept on blockchain. To declare ownership of a piece of NFTs, the creation of a unique token and linked to the media file.



The statement makes clear that Minecraft is not against monetizing, and uses the example of users paying for access to a Minecraft server as an acceptable use scenario. However, because NFTs would change the gameplay dynamics and give players who have monetary means an upperhand in-game The Minecraft developer is opposed to the technology.



"To ensure that Minecraft players enjoy a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technology is not permitted to be integrated into our Minecraft client and server applications. Nor can they be utilized to create NFTs associated with any game-related content, such as skins, worlds, items, or any other mods," declares the statement.



The developer also raised concerns about the credibility of third-party companies that mint Minecraft-related NFTs, and their tendency to abandon projects, and fraudulently inflate prices on NFT aftermarkets.



"No blockchain for block games," as Molly White of the website Web3 is Going Great succinctly put it. The website tracks the numerous scams, dramas, and frauds that are taking place in the Web3 world which includes cryptocurrencies and NFT projects.



As White mentions, the value of existing (and unauthorized) Minecraft NFT projects tanked due to the news of Mojang Studios' statement. NFT Worlds that is which is also associated with tokens, saw both the value of the token and its NFT floor prices fall by more than 70 percent.



Minecraft's Mojang Studios is far from the first video game company to be completely free of NFTs. Gamers have stated that they hate the idea of purchasing NFTs in addition to the video games they already purchase. Their skepticism about NFTs has caused the industry to follow. Sony just unveiled Playstation Stars, a loyalty program that rewards gamers with digital collectibles. The company stressed that these digital collectibles are not NFTs.



"It's certainly not NFTs. Definitely not. They can't be traded or sold. It's not leveraging any blockchain technologies and definitely not NFTs." said Grace Chen, Sony VP of network marketing loyalty, loyalty, and licensed merchandise in an interview with The Washington Post.



Mojang Studios did end its statement with a promise to be watching the evolution of blockchain technology in the future for possible use cases and leave the door open, based on presently non-existent possibilities. But, at least for the near future, chalk up another win for gamers who hate NFTs.
