Minecraft Shields can be used as a defense tool in pixelated combat. They are designed to deflect projectiles and direct melee attacks in the sandbox game. The Robinson Music Minecraft shields can't be upgraded and therefore, one size fits all, but they can be customized by with a banner that covers it in your own style.

Since caving in the survival game was made even more terrifying with the Caves and Cliffs update, a shield is among the first things you should think about making prior to heading to the depths of the Minecraft overworld. It's extremely resource-efficient and you can modify it to make it look amazing. This article will explain everything you must know about creating, using, and decorating your Minecraft shield.

How to create a Minecraft shield

The following seven ingredients are required to create a shield using Minecraft:

6x wood planks 1x iron ingot

Place your six wood planks into a Y shape in your grid of crafting, and then place the iron ingot in the top slot. If you've damaged a shield, it can be repaired using either an anvil, or by combining two damaged shields in your crafting grid.

To repair a Minecraft shield that has taken damage, simply put two damaged shields on the crafting table and their strength will be merged.

How do you make use of a Minecraft shield

The newly created Minecraft shield can be used to defend against enemies and other players. Your shield should be placed in the slots off-hand. Once equipped you can access it using the Java Edition right-click function. You can also climb up in Bedrock Edition to block any attack that is coming your way. However, your movement speed will be greatly reduced when you crouch.

Minecraft shields are able to block all attacks from the front, with the exception of an instant cooldown. The shield will be damaged equal to the attack's strength, but it can still be repaired if you have an attack that does more than three damages (one and a half hearts). Furthermore, Minecraft shields can be used to block some of the incoming attacks, such as the arrows that bounce off and deal damage back at the attacker who fired it.

Blocking with the shield blocks any damage effects resulting from an attack with a range. Knockback from melee attacks or projectiles is negated except for explosions, which are reduced to one block or less.

The weakness of the Minecraft shield is an attack with an axe. A strike to the shield can cause it to deactivate for five seconds, rendering you vulnerable to incoming attacks. You can deflect attacks using your shield in Minecraft:

Melee attacks - Arrows (without the piercing magic) - Fireballs Tridents Snowballs Thorns - Explosions - TNT (not ignited by you or by the redstone mechanism) Non-magical projectiles Guardian/elder guardian lasers

You can make use of your newly-designed Minecraft shield to defend yourself against melee attacks from hostile Minecraft mobs, and to avoid damage that is ranged. You can also swiftly recover using enchantments or repair your shield.

How to add an advertisement on a Minecraft shield

It is easy to attach an attractive banner design to mark your base, or a plain colour that matches you personality to your shield. All you require is a banner of your own design and an appropriate shield. You can find a separate guide for making a Minecraft banner. Once you have it, you can place it on a crafting table near your shield. Simple as that.

How to make minecraft shields enchanted

It is possible to enchant shields by using a Minecraft anvil, or an enchantment tablet. These enchantments can also be applied to shields.

This is everything you need to know about Minecraft Shields.
