You might be wondering how you can obtain Minecraft caps. There are rumors, whispers of the mythical piece of cloth that adorns the shoulders of the most elite Minecraft players. The legends talk of numerous Minecraft capes that were given to the lucky few over the years. The word on the block (sigh) is that capes also modify the appearance of Minecraft Elytra, the magical wings found in the end of ships, as they occupy the same area on a player's back. It's not a surprise that Minecraft capes are sought after, but it's been a challenge to locate them.

Participants who attended any Minecon event prior to Minecon Earth 2017 each received Minecraft capes and each year, they received a new colour and design. Even rarer still are the personal capes given to lucky people as a token of appreciation of their accomplishments like Reddit user u/billyk_, who got a personal turtle cape for suggesting Mojang should include turtles in Minecraft.

Unless you can think of a solution similar to turtles (unlikely) or travel back to Minecons past, it looks like you're out of luck to get any of these Minecraft capes in the Java version. They are more popular in the Bedrock version due to the many skin packs available in the Marketplace. You can obtain the cape for free using Minecraft mods. However, it will only be visible to your face. There's currently a Minecraft cape for the Java version, however you'll need to read this article to find out how to get it.

Change your Minecraft account's settings to get a Minecraft cape

Mojang announced in a blog post all Minecraft Java Edition accounts will be moved from Mojang to Microsoft. This is a mandatory change, so if you don't change your account at the time it is due, you eventually won't be allowed to play Minecraft unless you utilize the launcher.

On the plus side, though, once you log in to Minecraft with your Microsoft account, you'll gain access to an amazing new cape and possibly more, as Mojang promises players more than one outfit to show off'. Mojang does not automatically create new Minecraft accounts.

This official Mojang blog post explains how to do it.

How do I activate Minecraft caps

If you own an official Minecraft cape, you can equip it prior to launching the game. The capes you have Bedrock caps are only available in the version you have chosen. This is also true for any capes that you can earn in Minecraft Java version.

For the Bedrock version start the app and then click the button to enter the Dressing Room from the main menu. Next, click on the tab to the left with red capes and Mojang's logo. This will show all of your capes that are available, so choose one and click on equip.

To play the Java version, you'll need to launch the Launcher and then click Minecraft: Java Edition on the left side of the screen. This brings up some options at the top which include Skins. Click this option to bring up all of your current skins. From here, you can either create an entirely new skin or modify an existing one. If you select a Skin File, you will be able to view all of your available capes.

Make a cape using Minecraft mods

What happens if your avatar requires a cape but you don't have the money for the free migration cape? You can create your own cape by using mods. You can acquire any of the coveted capes available in the game - or even better the cape that you can imagine - using mods like the Advanced Capes Mod.
DESIGN

There's a caveat that other players you interact with on multiplayer Minecraft servers won't be able to see your cape unless they have the same mods installed. Waiting for official Mojang capes to be handed to you when your account moves is the best method to ensure everyone is able to see your cape.

That's everything you must know about buying yourself an awesome Minecraft cape - if you're looking to add a touch of style to your outfit Here are the top Minecraft skins we've come across or you can kit yourself out with a complete outfit of Minecraft Netherite armor.
