compare both the novel and poem and talk about how Frankenstein is the modern Prometheus because it says explore gothic literary devices (connections) between Frank. and the poem...compare them with the gothic style they both have then talk about how frank, is considered the modern prometheus.


shelley uses rain/ darkness to create an air of suspense . EX: ch 4 "it was a dreary night of November"
victor's thought of bringing back someone from the dead by using parts of corpses alludes to terror, mysterious mood, and super natural occurances which is all relevant characterisitics of gothic themes
when the creature was created, he was immediately excluded by the society. suffering through abandonment and how he was percieved by society, the monster seeks revenge for his life of dejection. such suffering of the creature also attributes to the gothic elements of the story.
"life and death appeared to me ideal bounds, which I should first break through, and pour torrent of light into our dark world"- victor; ch 4
"the agony of my feelings allowed me no respite; no incident occurred from which my rae and misery could not extract its food..." -creature
Victor's ominous dream was very gothic and gory with all the maggots and Elizabeth dying in his arms.
the murders and deaths at the end are very gothic.
i think the main gothic elements simplified are the emotions and overall feelings of gloom and despair throughout, the supernatural and the tragedy.
as for visuals maybe a slide show of pics of a gloomy castle, a thunderstorm, graves or peoples interpretations of what frankenstein looked like
