RuneScape is making its return! Old School RuneScape is back as a mobile game. It was the source of many memories from middle school. Android players are already rejoicing in the polygonal kingdom via limited beta. iOS players will receive invitations "later this summer". You're aware of what "new platform" signifies it's a new platform for players.
While the mobile beta of RuneScape is likely filled with players who have played the game for years, eager to revisit their favorite adventures, it will eventually be available to a wider audience. Particularly, newbies with wide eyes looking to play that exciting new game on the phone that they have heard about on Facebook. They will likely look to their elders for guidance. Good seniors will respond kindly, offering advice and maybe even free items. Others will see these newbs...as an opportunity.
MMOs have been plagued by scams for a long period, and RuneScape is not an exception. Here are three of the most well-known ways to scam fellow players. They are well-known to RuneScape veterans. New players may not learn about them until it's too late.

Free Armor Trimming!
Perhaps the most notorious scam in RuneScape history that was hacked frequently back in the day it became a meme. The funny thing is, it's actually the simplest trick to accomplish. extrememining The scammer will simply stand in a public area and offers free trimming of armor. They will trim armor and then transform it into upgraded Rune Armor (g or t) by simply standing in front of the public. But they don't do the trimming.
The goal is to persuade an innocent person to let go of their armor in exchange for. In exchange for a better version of their armor, the victim makes a one-sided deal with the scammer. Instead the scammer takes the armor and then flees. This is how you can get your armor free.
As easy and tempting as it seems it's hard to suggest the actual operation of this scam. It's so well-known there's a Wikipedia page dedicated to it. In this way, those who offer free armor trimming are usually quickly reported and punished with long-term bans.
Don't worry, The Skull Is Just For The Show...
If luring people into letting go of their armor isn't your thing, you can always use force to get them to do it. Eliminating other players, known as PKing in the game can cause them to lose a lot of their stuff. That makes whatever goodies they were carrying are now yours for the taking.
The protections exist but they're not the only ones. Without them, the game would be a mess of people fighting for their loot. It's a lot like the beginning of Ready Player One, but without all the cool cameos. Wilderness is an area where players can freely interact with each other.
The Wilderness is a major part of RuneScape where anyone can take on anyone. There are some creatures and quests found in the Wilderness. That means that, to truly progress in the game, everyone has to face the Wilderness at some time. This also means that experienced players have an ideal opportunity to lure uninitiated novices into the PvP realm. "Hey let's go to the Wilderness and work on this beast, it'll assist you in gaining more experience!" Before they realize it the new player follows their friend into the trap.
Players who die in the Wilderness can still be allowed to keep their three most important possessions. If they don't have skulls over their heads. A skull is awarded to players who assault an opponent without prompting. A skull signifies that anyone who dies with it will lose everything, including the most valuable. There are a variety of ways to get a new player to giving you a skull.
Double Or None
This one is very similar to "Free Armor Trimming", but is much simpler to perform. The scammer who does armor trimming usually wears an expensive set, as a type of "example" for their work. This may not be feasible right away. The scam "Doubling Money" only requires an additional gold coin and is a fraud that anyone can participate in.
It is similar to other scams. The scammer is in public and shouts "Double money!" The scammer offers an "test run" with some money if someone is approached by a potential victim. Give me 10k coins, and I'll give you 20k. The scammer will double the money and returns it in the manner promised and the victim is lured by their sudden gains. The scammer then offers to double the more substantial amount now that they've proved their credibility. This is the scam. The scammer disappears after the victim has paid the scammer a significant amount of money.
There are many variations to this trick. Some scammers will increase the amount to double in several small increments, taking the time to build trust before asking for the full sum. People who are desperate simply take the initial "test money" and run. Some will convince a friend to double their money and boast about how "legitimate" they are. This scam is dangerous because it is easy to make it appear legitimate. Scammers can make it appear legit by luring new players.

It's about stealing armor, ambushing unwitting newbies, or raking in cash the majority of RuneScape scams are based on one thing the trust of. New players will likely be overwhelmed by all the game offers. They'll feel lost, and may be willing to accept the help of more experienced players. It's up to the veterans to set the tone in this new era of RuneScape. These lost lambs will you lead them? Or will you treat them for what they're worth?
