Do you want to get Minecraft running smoothly on Steam Deck or a regular Linux desktop with minimal effort? This is one way to accomplish this and it's a breeze. I've chosen the PolyMC launcher (a version of MultiMC) available on Flathub since the official Minecraft launcher Flatpak doesn't save your password on Steam Deck and PolyMC of course deals with modding too.

Text steps:
- Install PolyMC through the Discover Software Centre on Steam Deck or Flathub directly for desktop Linux. Start PolyMC and then add your account in the upper right corner of. It is compatible with Mojang and Microsoft logins. Open the main PolyMC Settings and click Minecraft in the left pane. Click the option to close PolyMC once the game window appears. If you do not, the Steam Deck will blink between the two windows when you load the Game Mode/ Deck UI. Check in the PolyMC Settings that Java is updated to the latest version, which is necessary for the latest version of Minecraft. Click Add Instance at the top left. Next, select normal Minecraft or mods with built-in search. It will install everything you require. souldevteam If you want to launch directly from Steam you must go to the Games menu at the top, then select Add a non-Steam game and then select PolyMC in the list of games.
Some YouTube comments suggested that you try out optimized modpacks. However, I couldn't find a significant difference in performance or power usage to make them worth it on Deck when testing on the same map seed. Although controller mods are available, they're not often updated and only work with certain Minecraft versions. So I recommend using Steam Input and adjusting a few keys.
