Meet Dream Meet Dream, the Mysterious Minecraft YouTuber who is one of the Fastest-growing Creators on The Platform.

YouTuber Dream has broken records and pulled in millions of views, but the person behind the avatar is still a mystery. Dream, with 16.4 million subscribers on YouTube is one of the fastest growing YouTube channels. Even though he's been the subject of controversy however, the Minecraft expert still has one of the most loyal and dedicated fans on the internet. For more stories, go to Insider's homepage.

Minecraft YouTuber Dream has rapidly risen up the creator hierarchy and has become one of the fastest-growing YouTube channel's of 2020 and the top two overall creator of the year according to the platform. The unassuming green avatar with a knack for discovering "Minecraft's" cavern-filled secrets has managed to garner over 16 million users in less than two years. What exactly is it that is it that makes Dream so special and popular, when there are thousands of content creators building worlds with Minecraft's characteristic blocks?

Who is Dream?

Dream's life and identity are still unknown as the YouTuber with the sleepy name preferring to keep his image secret. His online avatar is a simple, neon green figure. The design is well-known and easily identifiable to the typical "Minecraft" viewer.

As YouTuber Mysticat puts it, "Dream's branding is unprofessional however that doesn't mean it's bad. Dream employs a Microsoft Paint drawn character that's super doofy and appealing to children, which is Minecraft's core viewers."

Although Dream began his YouTube channel in 2014, it's not clear whether the channel was active until July 2019. In his first video, he purposefully "triggers" viewers by playing the game as badly as he can, performing things like placing blocks on top of chests, killing sheep for their wool, and eating rotten flesh.

After his first upload, Dream started posting content fairly often. Felix Kjellberg, known online as the wildly popular PewDiePie, had been playing "Minecraft" for his massive audience of over 100 million followers at that point. Dream was able to find a way to re-engineer Kjellberg's "world seed," meaning, the randomly generated world his "Minecraft" game had created, using techniques he learned from forums. In the first two days, the video was able to garner 200k views, which led him to make three more that would garner more than two million views in less than two weeks. At the end of July, Dream had gained 54,000 subscribers , and his fame was born.

For the next few months, Dream's channel will continue to grow in millions of views and thousands of subs but his breakthrough moment was in November 2019. After uploading multiple videos that capitalized on the trend format "___ but ___ changes every time," Dream struck diamond. His video , titled "Minecraft However, Item Drops Are Random And Multiplied" ..." went viral and racked up 32 million views and giving his 600,000 new followers.

Dream would upload frequently over the next year, gradually gaining hundreds and thousands of subscribers each month, and millions of views. His "Minecraft Speedrunner vs." series, in which Dream would choose to complete the game while certain NPCs or non-player characters pursued his pursuit, or set goals that had to be completed was a huge hit. Dream also began collaborating with GeorgeNotFound, an acquaintance and a potential participant on Dream's server for roleplaying that he created in May of 2020.

Dream has been accused of cheating in Minecraft

Dream's channel was at its highest growth in subscribers, with 2.6 million subscribers by August 2020 and Dream becoming the face for the game. He uploaded a speedrun of the 1.14 version of Minecraft in March of 2020 and 1.15 in June, so when version 1.16 version came out later in the year, he had to take it on. He was happy with the position he had reached on the leaderboard and finished his run in fifth place.

On December 11 of 2020, moderator of the official speedrun forums Geosquare uploaded an online video titled "Did Dream fake his Speedruns - Official Moderator Analysis." Geosquare and his colleagues Minecraft moderators had examined the livestreams and concluded that Dream had recorded events that were too statistically unlikely to have happened without the help of mods or cheats. The moderators analyzed the 29-page document and concluded that Dream was 1 in 1.75 trillion likely to have discovered the necessary items needed to complete the game.

Dream has denied any wrongdoing or cheating in multiple Twitter threads and videos. Dream posted an interview on December 23 discussing the claims. He also shared a study he'd conducted with Photoexcitation. It concluded that there was a one in 100 million chance of his winning.

Dream's research was disregarded by the speedrunning mods who then released another five-page study. Dream responded with a final tweet writing that "this drama has caused stress for the majority of the Minecraft community and a large portion of it was due to my initial response to the drama, and I am fully responsible for that."

Dream has been the victim of harassment, including doxxing

Dream fans were able to locate his house using a photograph of his kitchen uploaded to his second account on January 1, 2021. They also posted the information, also known as doxxing.

In a Twitlonger on January 7th, Dream addressed the incident as well as his ex-girlfriend, whom believes is spreading false rumors about him. He denied her accusations and stated that he doesn't take any interest in YouTube. Dream also stated that his friends who appear on his videos do not receive an amount of his earnings.

How Dream masters the YouTube algorithm

The massive growth of Dream between 2019 and 2020 can be attributed to his knowledge of the YouTube algorithm.

He uses keywords in the right places and makes use of trends to create thumbnails that viewers will be compelled to click. Minecraft survival servers Similar to the genius of Jimmy Donaldson, the highly-popular Mr. Dream has learned how to succeed on YouTube, just like Beast.
