2. Tindakan enzim spesifik. Setiap jenis enzim hanya bertindak balas dengan substrat tertentu sahaja. Contoh: enzim sukrase hanya boleh berindak balas dengan sukrosa tetapi tidak boleh bertindak balas dengan maltosa walaupun kedua-duanya adalah gula.
3. Tindak balas enzim boleh berbalik. Arah tindak balas bergantung kepada jumlah substrat dan hasil yang ada. Tindak balas penguraian lemak akan berlaku dari kiri ke kanan atau dari kanan ke kiri sehingga keseimbangan tercapai antara kedua-dua substrat.[2]
4. Enzim diperlukan dalam kuantiti yang kecil. Sedikit enzim akan memangkinkan satu bilangan besar tindak balas biokimia yang sama.
5. Enzim tidak boleh dimusnahkan selepas tindak balas biokimia selesai. Oleh itu, enzim boleh digunakan berulang kali.
6. Suhu optimum bagi tindak balas enzim ialah pada 37oC.
