Minecraft Snapshot 17w43b

We do not plan to add any new mechanics or gameplay features to 1.13. Instead we will continue to improve the game engine.



This first snapshot will introduce two major changes to our codebase: data packs and LWJGL.





Data Packs


Usage & Installation

A data pack could be either or

Zip file

Or

Directory

Inside /datapacks/ For instance, both these are completely valid data packs:



/datapacks/CoolPack2000.zip /datapacks/SuperPack3000/



If you receive data packs from a friend or on the internet, you can expect that it will just be the form of a zip file. It will automatically be installed by placing it in the datapacks/ folder.



The /reload command will apply any modifications to a data pack that you've modified or installed while the game is still running.





FILE STRUCTURE

pack.mcmeta (Required). - This contains a description about the pack. data/ This is the reason it is a data pack, containing all data files./ - Much like resource packs, all files require a namespace.Functions/ It contains all commands. functions.mcfunction - A command function named :



.json A loot table with the name :



.nbt - A structure named :



.json - An advancement named :



.json - A recipe named :





Pack Hierarchy

Data packs, like resource packs, have a load-order. Unfortunately, there is no way to change or monitor this currently. Sorry! We are working on it.





Note: Recipes?

? Recipes should be included in data packs, but we haven't finished supporting this yet. We don't have any custom data packs for recipes, and we don't sync any custom recipes from the server to clients.



In essence... they don't work yet. Soooooon!





Namespaces

This isn't a brand new concept however I thought I should reiterate what a "namespace" is. The majority of things in the game have names, so that when we add something, and mod (or map, or whatever) adds something, they're both distinct things. When you're asked to name something, such as the loot table you're required to indicate the namespace from which it originates from. If you don't specify the namespace, we default to minecraft. This means that something and minecraft:something mean the same thing.



Always use your own namespace for anything that you add, and only make use of other namespaces if you're overriding another. Do not add any new things in minecraft in general.



A namespace should not contain more than the following symbols:



0123456789 (Numbers) abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz (Lowercase letters) _ (Underscore) - (Hyphen/minus)





Names of... things...

You can call anything (recipes or advancements, for instance) whatever you want, but these are the only official supported symbols:



0123456789 (Numbers) abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz (Lowercase letters) _ (Underscore) / (Forward slash, directory separator) . (Period) - (Hyphen/minus)



The preferred naming convention is lower_case_with_underscores.





LWJGL 3

We have also updated to use the latest version of LW

JGL

. This resolves a number of long-standing issues on Mac OS and Linux and should make it much more stable. The main benefit you'll enjoy is that fullscreen mode now defaults to a borderless windows, which means that snapping in and out of fullscreen mode is very fast! We've already identified the following issues you might encounter:



Fullscreen mode on Mac OS X has a high chance of hard crashing, so we disabled this until we find an alternative. - In some cases the inputs of keystrokes can be sent twice. For instance, if you hover over an item in the search tab of the creative inventor and then press a hotbar key it will be transmitted twice. The icon for the game on Mac OS X is no longer a grassblock. We are still working on it!





Blocks for structure

When you use "save" in a structure block, it now saves it in the following location: generated//structures/

When you call "load" in a structure block we attempt to load from the generated directory before trying data packs. This ensures the sameness of saving and loading.



If you're making custom maps, don't distribute the "generated folder" in its current state. Convert it into an data pack. Thank you!





Backwards compatibility - Time travel!

This is a problem that we all have to deal with, but we believe that we must address it now.

We do not officially endorse returning to older versions of minecraft within the same folder in which you have a brand new version of Minecraft

. If you run this snapshot then switch to an earlier version in the same directory, you will

You are always recommended to run snapshots (and any other version other than "the most recent release") in their own folders. This is also why tutorial toasts keep coming back;





A word of caution

1.13 will have a

Lot

of experimental snapshots that may cause a smell and break all the rules. This could be one of the snapshots. This is what happens when we're changing all things!





Install the snapshot

Please report any bugs you find in Minecraft to bugs.mojang.com. list If no one has reported bugs, we aren't able to fix it!



Open your launcher and select the "launch options tab" to download snapshots. Save the box that says "Enable snaps" . You can switch between normal and snapshot versions by clicking the "Play" button. Back up your world first or launch the game in a different folder (In the "launch options" page).




Snapshots can cause harm to your environment. Make sure you backup them and/or put them in a separate folder.
