Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.1 is out now and it has some controversial changes, which many players aren't satisfied with.
First, player reporting has been added to the system. This lets players report abusive messages in game chat. Look at me never rat on your friends and always keep your mouth shut The system lets you report specific people on servers and choose which messages to include, plus add comments. From there, Mojang / Microsoft moderators will examine the reports and address the issues. It applies to all server types, including private servers. Linking together with that is another change to the text chat. With their new secure chat system, it will place an annotation on the chat for every message that is not sent via it or if the server somehow tampered with it.
Mojang say people won't be banned for swearing, but it's more directed at "hate speech, bullying, harassment sexual solicitation, making threats to other players". It won't affect single-player play if you are banned.
Naturally, there's already modifications to circumvent this like the No Chat Reports mod that claims to eliminate the signatures that are attached to chat messages, making them "impossible to trace and link the chat messages you send to Minecraft and, in turn, Microsoft account".
