What is Minecraft?

Minecraft is a virtual "sandbox game. You can build your own virtual worlds and experiences using resources or building blocks. Although you'll need to start with the basics before you proceed to more complex resources, you will eventually be able to create your world in any way you like.

While the prices may differ depending on the platform you choose to play on, Minecraft will never cost you more than PS25. The price includes all mods (community-made improvements to the game) as well as skins (aesthetic enhancements to a character). You can play Minecraft on a smartphone, tablet or computer.

You can play in either a single-player or multiplayer mode. Multiplayer mode lets players work together to create their Minecraft world.

Why is it so well-known?

Minecraft is a game that is free-form. It does not come with any set of instructions or a specific goal - players can build and explore however they want. It's often described as a Lego. Lego.

This means that Minecraft fans have a lot of flexibility in terms of the way they play. Minecraft-skins You can create your own fantasy world or recreate one. You can also battle villains and seek adventure.

It can be played at any level. In many of the most popular games, you must have a certain amount of skill to move on to the next challenge. What do parents need to know?

Age restrictions

Different Minecraft versions have different age restrictions. Certain mods might have more violence than others. It's also worth keeping in mind that Minecraft has an in-game chat feature. The age ratings range from 7+ to 13+.

Minecraft's standard terms and conditions state that children under 13 years old must have parental permission to play. Children under 13 years old are allowed to play Minecraft in the UK without parental consent. However, it is not illegal.

Despite the age limit, Minecraft is very popular with primary school children. There's nothing in the game itself that is inappropriate for kids.

Chat functions

There are two types of chats in Minecraft: Realms and Server chats. Realm chat is hosted by game's creators, Mojang and moderated by Mojang. They moderate it. Server chat is created by individual players. Usually players will invite friends to join their Minecraft server and chat with them, but some players offer an open invitation, which allows anyone to join.

Remind children of the dangers of communicating with strangers online.

Remember that users could be using discord, or any other chat platform with different security settings. Be sure to remind children not to use other platforms for communication.

Chat features allow children to communicate with others who share similar desires in gaming. There is no way to verify who these people could be. It is recommended that children not talk with other players through chat in games unless they are familiar with them.

It is also important that children do not share any personal information, or transfer their conversations to other online areas that could be considered to be private.

YouTube videos on Minecraft

Lots of Minecraft users watch fan-created YouTube videos to enhance their skills and master new techniques.

Plenty of these are age-appropriate. Minecraft does not have any particularly graphic content, but some of the videos contain monsters, trolls, spiders and zombies, which some children might find frightening. Some of the videos include commentary that includes sexual references, while others discuss or even encourage bullying. Check these videos to see whether you feel they're suitable for you.

You might look up "profanity-free Minecraft servers". Even then it might be worth checking the videos before children are old enough to watch them.

You can also enable YouTube's Safety Modeto block age-inappropriate content.

Listen to the Parent Zone podcast Tech Shock.

Reporting functions

Presently, Minecraft does not have an immediate 'report' function, so your child should be aware when joining an online server. If your child is gaming with a mature age group, they might be exposed to offensive language or rude comments. However, Minecraft do reserve the right to remove any player who violates the terms and conditions.

You can report individual players by going to Minecraft's help desk, and submitting complaints. This is something an adult would rather do, rather than an infant. It's a bit difficult.

With some plugins (add-on software that enhances or customizes the game) You can report users who break the rules of the server to a moderator who can ban anyone being disruptive or offensive.

Is there something you dislike? You can email [email protected] to submit comments and feedback.
