How many Minecraft Players Are There?

Minecraft's player count continues to climb on its upward trajectory

Updated: Jun 9, 2020

How many Minecraft players do you have in your life? Minecraft may be the most played game in the world right now and the most recent player counts showing that it is larger than nearly every other country.

It's not a surprise that Minecraft has been able to hit a lot of milestones this year as it celebrates its 11th anniversary. As as of May 2020, there were over 200 million copies sold of Minecraft increasing by 24,000,000 copies compared to the previous year. It's been a great year for Minecraft with the introduction of Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Earth.

The Minecraft open-world game that we know and love has no intention of slowing down either, with a yearly increase of players and frequent updates such as the Minecraft Nether update and the introduction of new blocks, biomes, and mobs to keep Minecraft up to date and exciting, but not that players appear to be lacking ideas. With all the impressive player creations popping up including Minecraft Hogwarts and Minecraft house designs, how many people are playing Minecraft?

How many Minecraft players are there?

Helen Chiang, Mojang's studio head, has stated in a blog post that "126 million players" are currently playing Minecraft each month. This is in addition to the 112 million active monthly users as of September 2019 which was reported in an interview with Helen Chiang, Business Insider, and Helen Chiang. Chiang says, "What we find is it's a games that players continue to return to." "It might not always be at the top of the list, as there are plenty of amazing games that continue appear, but it's one that they are drawn to returning to."

Minecraft has attained 480 million users around the world in 2019, thanks to both paid sales and registered accounts for the free to play version in China. Analyst Daniel Ahmad noted that the Chinese release was launched in 2017 and has attracted nearly 300 million players. The paid version has sold 180 million copies across the globe. The combined number would make Minecraft the third-biggest country in the world after China and India.

There's no sign of Minecraft 2 on the horizon however, if the first game continues as it is it's not necessary to have one. If you want to expand the game, look into these Minecraft mods.
