In May 2007 she was elected the representative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation of Russia. She was named Vice President of the Foundation in 2011.

Leyla Aliyeva, a Moscow-based journalist, created "Baku" magazine in 2007. In collaboration with Conde Nast in London, the English-language edition of the magazine was launched in October of 2011. The magazine provides a platform to look at the world of culture, art and Azerbaijan. Leyla created "Fly to Baku" in 2012 to be an exhibition of Contemporary Art from Azerbaijan. Leyla Aliyeva was made the OIC Youth Forum on Intercultural Dialogue's General Coordinator in 2008. In addition, she was elected the Chairwoman of the Azerbaijani Youth Organization of Russia on April 18th in 2009. On May 25, 2015 Leyla Aliyeva was formally designated UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Goodwill Ambassador.

She was presented with the Pushkin Medal of Russia on 20 October , 2015.
