The novel, "The Jukebox King," is the first novel by James Whitfield Thomson, a Vietnam veteran and former sales executive. A member of Andre Dubus's writers' workshop, Thomson lives in Natick, Massachusetts, and is currently revising a manuscript for his next novel. This is his first novel. It's a work of historical fiction set in Pittsburgh, and features a young boy who becomes obsessed with the music of the 1960s.
Born in Pittsburgh, Jim Thomson graduated from Harvard College on a military scholarship and went on to serve in the Navy in Vietnam. After receiving his Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, he worked as a salesman for a start-up company and taught at the University of Miami. Now he lives in a Victorian farmhouse west of Boston. He has won several awards, including a Massachusetts Cultural Council grant.

As a child, Thomson was raised on the North Side of Pittsburgh. He attended Harvard College on a scholarship and served in the Navy. He then went on to earn a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. After James Whitfieldthomson , he spent a year working for a start-up company in Atlanta. Today, he lives in a Victorian farmhouse west of Boston. His work is published in literary journals and won the Commonwealth Grant.
