Trung tâm thương mại ngầm đầu tiên ở TP.HCM là ga trung tâm thương mại ngầm Bến Thành, thuộc tuyến metro số 1 (Bến Thành - Suối Tiên). Ga trung tâm Bến Thành sẽ là đầu mối giao thông kết nối các tuyến metro và là trung tâm thương mại ngầm đầu tiên của TP. Theo thiết kế, ga trung tâm thương mại ngầm Bến Thành có quy mô khoảng 45.000 m2, có tổng số vốn đầu tư hơn 8.400 tỉ đồng. Trong đó, khu thương mại rộng 18.100 m2, hành lang và quảng trường ngầm 21.500 m2. Sau đó, Sở QH-KT sẽ trình UBND TP phê duyệt. Hiện nay, ý tưởng thiết kế đô thị và không gian ngầm khu vực nhà ga Bến Thành đang được Sở QH-KT thành lập hội đồng tuyển chọn để lựa chọn ra phương án tối ưu nhất. Theo đó, thiết kế của ga trung tâm Bến Thành sẽ có sự kết nối hài hòa với các tuyến đường kết nối xung quanh như Lê Lợi, Đồng Khởi, Nguyễn Huệ, Hàm Nghi… Vì vậy ga ngầm Bến Thành còn được gọi là nhà ga trung tâm Bến Thành, nằm tại khu vực trung tâm TP và có vị trí quan trọng, kết nối chợ Bến Thành. Ngoài phục vụ hành khách tuyến metro số 1, ga ngầm Bến Thành còn là điểm trung chuyển, kết nối các tuyến metro khác như tuyến metro số 2 (Bến Thành - Tham Lương), tuyến metro số 3A (Bến Thành - Tân Kiên) và tuyến metro số 4 (Thạnh Xuân - Khu đô thị Hiệp Phước). Nhà ga trung tâm Bến Thành được thiết kế phù hợp với cảnh quan kiến trúc xung quanh và được kỳ vọng là một trong những biểu tượng mới của TP.HCM trong tương lai. Hiện nay ga ngầm Bến Thành đã hoàn thiện 100% việc đổ bê tông sàn tầng B3F và B4F, thực hiện 91% việc đổ bê tông sàn tầng B2, và 93% việc đổ bê tông sàn tầng B1. Nhà ga trung tâm Bến Thành được thiết kế ngầm dài 236 m, rộng 60 m, độ sâu khoảng 30 m. Tổng diện tích sàn nhà ga Bến Thành đã thực hiện đạt 94,9%. Diện tích tường, cột đạt 43%, phấn đấu hoàn thành toàn bộ phần kết cấu bê tông nhà ga vào quý I-2021. Bên trong nhà ga có gì? Tầng B3 gồm phòng xử lý không khí, phòng cấp điện, phòng nghỉ nhân viên và ke ga Tuyến 4 (trong tương lai). Nhà ga Trung tâm Bến Thành bao gồm 4 tầng. Hiện vụ việc đang được Công an Quận 10 điều tra mở rộng.
