Notes - notes.io

Good day Madam/ Sir,

I am hereby reporting a suspicious deduction of money from by bank account in the sum of 2544.69 DKK. The money was deducted on the 26th of August 2022 where immediately after seeing this, I called your customer service which helped me to block my card.

Upon the call with the customer service I was quite shaked about this given that neither myself not the bank representative could identify the basis of this deduction. I did not authorize any payment of this sort. Based on the description from the bank statement, it states ANC*ANCESTRY.COM. As many of us may know, it gave me an impression it is from one of the family free tracing websites. Upon the call with the representative I tried to recall my interactions with such websites and as advised by the representative - before filing this - I went to verify whether this payment could be caused by my own carelessness or not -I believe this is a scam and not the company in question that has taken my money (as seen bellow) and for that reason I am filing this under belief that “ the website/business/ATM and the amount are complete-ly unknown to me”.

I found out (recalled) that back in 2017, I registered on Ancestry.com; upon recommendation from An-cestry.com customer service (today - August 27, 2022) - I went to check my payment/purchase history (see attached). I have not been actively using this website – I browsed it only a few times. Ancestry.com records show no record of payments, billings, or paid subscription - there is no purchase made ever. In this manner I am attaching a screenshot of this and I also downloaded my data from the website which I am willing to provide for you to see that in connection to this company I never authorized any payments. I also checked my bank statement, and it indicates the same – never any payment to Ancestry.com. I checked my emails, bank statement, website, all of it. I registered exactly on 01/05/2017 at 13:59:48 (retrieved from data information sheet) where I used a free trial version to see whether I would be inter-ested in actively purchasing a membership. Upon finding out that the free trial is for U.S. Discovery membership I cancelled it the same day (within 14-day trial period) as I have no relatives or ties to the US and therefore it is of no use to me. I cancelled the trial on the same day at 22:36 whereas I received a confirmation email of doing so (see attached). My payment history also showcases that where was never any additional billing and there is also no record of this payment 2544.59 DKK (USD 339.42) or any other. I am attaching all for your information to verify. The sum also does not add up to any possible combination of subscription bundles or anything that this company offers. Based on the information there, it suggests that they neither have no basis nor authorisation to charge me and it looks to me they were not the ones who did.

I also googled “ANC*ANCESTRY.COM” where I found that there have been more people that have had their money deducted from their bank accounts in the same manner like I have – different and random sums – where many people stated they never even registered on the family free websites (Attaching one of the many links to discussions on these activities). This made me think whether this is even connected to official Ancestry company or whether just someone uses their name. In this manner, I am filling a claim as unknown deduction because I believe this is not even an official Ancestry company that charged me as I never agreed to any purchase or paid subscriptions, therefore there is no legitimate claim to this payment neither from Ancestry, nor any other place like it.

I sincerely appreciate your effort and time spent looking into this issue as I believe I was victim of a scam or a fraud where someone/something has charged my card for a great sum of money which I did not authorise nor agreed to and I could only speculate how my bank details could have been misused in such a terrible manner.

Thank you

Best Regards,

Alexandra
