Only Five Transfers Were Made By The Longhorns

Mel Tucker, Michigan State's coach, responded to a 2-5 campaign with a big bet on the transfer portal. The Spartans became Peach bowl champions (11-2), and were a model for every program looking to make an instant turnover.

36 FBS programs received 10 or more transfers after a turbulent offseason. Five of the eight top classes had new coaches trying to add their own spin to a program. Programs could change due to the quality of FBS contributors.

These five college football programs are poised to rise in 2022 thanks to the transfer portal. https://evina.si/ They range from national contenders to coaches who just need a few breaks to coach.

1. USC Trojans

Notable additions were: QB Caleb Williams(Oklahoma),WR Jordan Addison(Pitt),RB Travis Dye (“Oregon”), LB Eric Gentry (“Arizona State”), CB Mekhi Blackmon (“Colorado”)

USC, which snatched Lincoln Riley (Oklahoma) from Oklahoma, has no intention of waiting to compete in the College Football Playoff. The Trojans received 19 transfers, which is four more than any other school and includes two of four top-four players in the class.

Caleb Williams, the Quarterback, is the story after following Riley out of Oklahoma. However, Jordan Addison, the Biletnikoff-winning Receiver, made headlines when he joined the Trojans. This combination instantly rivals C.J. Jaxon Smith–Njigba and Stroud are among the top QB-WR combinations in college football. Riley didn't skimp on defense, however. Eleven defenders are coming to Los Angeles via the transfer portal.

After Clay Helton's firing, USC's roster had been underappreciated. With the influx of talent heading to Heritage Hall, the Trojans will quickly hold expectations to challenge for the Pac-12.

2. Ole Miss Rebels

Notable additions: QB Jaxson Hart (Ole Miss),RB Zach Evans (TCU),EDGE Jared Ivey(Georgia Tech),TE Michael Trigg (USC).

The Rebels were ranked No. 2 in the 247Sports transfer rankings after reeling in nine prospects rated four-star transfer recruits or higher, trailing only Alabama and Texas in average recruit rating. Dart is the top recruit of the group, ranked No. 3 overall recruit and a worthy successor to NFL Draft pick Matt Corral.

The Rebels also emphasized skill talent in order to make Dart weapons. Ulysses Bentley IV (running back) and Evans were involved in both sides of the Battle for the Iron Skillet. Receivers Malik Heath, Jaylon Robinson and Jordan Watkins are proven commodities.

For the first time in program history, Ole Miss won ten regular season games in 2021. Lane Kiffin has Ole Miss prepared to compete in a year of transition for Rebels with so many new faces.

3. Nebraska Cornhuskers

Notable additions were QB Casey Thompson in Texas, QB Chubba purdy in Florida State, DL Stephon Wynn in Alabama, DE Ochaun Mathis at TCU.

The portal was a success for the Cornhuskers adding 14 transfers. More could be on the horizon. Nine of the transfers came from Power Five institutions, with one defender from Alabama.

After a poor unit cost them many one-score games in a shocking 2021 campaign, Nebraska went heavy on offense. Thompson should settle the job under center, but FSU transfer Chubba Purdy gives Nebraska a long-term option. Receivers Trey Palmer and Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda team up with Omar Manning to give the outside a new look.

The Cornhuskers have not been able to generate the separation and speed required to play Scott Frost's spread strategy. Nebraska is now more prepared for competitive games, thanks to Mark Whipple and the transfer of Mark Whipple as offensive coordinator.

4. Texas Longhorns

Notable additions include QB Quinn Ewers in Ohio State, WR Agiye Hal (Alabama), WR Isaiah Neyor in Wyoming, CB Ryan Watts in Ohio State, TE Jahleel Billingsley and TE Jahleel Billingsley in Alabama

Although Texas added five transfers to their team, Texas will be relying on its new recruits more than any other state. Ewers was Vince Young's first perfect 1.0000 quarterback recruit and instantly changed the vibes about a program that went 5-7 in 2021.

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian beefed up his skill groups after fielding 1,000-yard rusher Bijan Robinson and near-1,000-yard receiver Xavier Worthy in 2021. Neyor had 878 yards and 12 touchdowns in Wyoming. Hall and Billingsley are expected to be major contributors to Alabama in 2022.

The Longhorns may be the Big 12's favorite if Texas can make significant strides on defense as well as on the offensive line. However, every transfer needs to hit.

5. South Carolina Gamecocks

Notable additions: QB Spencer Rattler (Oklahoma), S Devonni Reed (Central Michigan), WR Antwane Wells (James Madison), TE Austin Stogner (Oklahoma)

The Gamecocks shocked even themselves in 2021 when they turned a depleted roster into a promising 7-6 season. South Carolina coach Shane Beamer made sure that the team caught the Auburn and Florida times right at the right moments.

Rattler was the presumed no. The 2022 NFL Draft was Rattler's No. 1. Rattler is still one of the most talented college football players and should see a significant upgrade. Beamer did a good job surrounding him with targets, including 1,200-yard receiver Wells of James Madison and 800-yard receiver Corey Rucker of Arkansas State.

The SEC East will take another step forward with Tennessee and Kentucky poised for special seasons, but South Carolina could take a step towards the top of the league if Beamer's growth continues. To say the Gamecocks' offensive talent has been transformed is an understatement.
