Ireland

Northern Ireland is one of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom. It has its own government and parliament, but remains part of the UK in many other ways. The country's name is a source of controversy, as it includes "Ireland" in its title even though there are no Irish people in Northern Ireland or anywhere else in the UK. This is because many years ago when England was fighting with Scotland and Wales over ownership of this landmass, King James VI & I wanted to punish his rebellious subjects by taking their land away from them forever (!) So he created an entirely new county called "Ulster" which could only be populated by English settlers from Scotland and England (and later America). They brought their culture with them-- including Christianity

Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland is a part of the United Kingdom. It's also known as Ulster, or the North of Ireland. The Six Counties is another common reference to Northern Ireland, as well as "the Province of Ulster."

Antrim / Aontroim

Antrim / Aontroim is a county in Northern Ireland. It borders the counties of Antrim, Down, Londonderry, and Tyrone. Antrim / Aontroim is one of six counties in Ulster. The population of Antrim / Aontroim is approximately 180,000 (2016).

Antrim / Aontroim was named after an ancient Gaelic kingdom that was founded by Conall Gulban in the 6th century AD. The name means "stone fort," which was probably based on a nearby rocky outcrop where he built his fortress at Dunseverick Castle (also known as Dunseverick).

Armagh / Ard Mhacha

Armagh is the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland. The seat of the Church of Ireland, it is also home to St Patrick's Cathedral and is known as Ard Mhacha in Irish.

The city has some interesting museums such as Armagh County Museum, which contains exhibits on local history, including early man and the Norman period; Ulster Museum (National Museums Northern Ireland), which houses displays relating to natural history and archaeology; Royal School of Artillery Museum at Fort Cumberland; Collegiate Church of St Peter & St Paul (Church of Ireland), one of three cathedrals in Northern Ireland; nearby Newry Canal Basin where there are remains from an old lock gatehouse dating back to 1790 as well as a water pump house built in 1846 by William Crossley who was responsible for building many locks along this section of canal after he replaced John Rennie who had died suddenly while working on plans for its completion earlier that year

Down / An Dún

Down is a county in the province of Ulster, in the Republic of Ireland. It is the second largest county in Ireland by area, and the fourth largest by population.

Down is one of four counties that form Northern Ireland, and one of the six counties of the former province of Ulster. Down contains nine baronies: Castlereagh (the only one not named after an Irish town), Claneboye, Dungannon Lower and Upper, Dufferin, Lower Half Ballybot Upper Half Ormeau and Tullycarnet Upper or Castlereagh Lower and Upper

Fermanagh / Fear Manach is a county in the Republic of Ireland. It is the largest county in Northern Ireland, and its only border with another county is with County Tyrone to the south-west.

Londonderry / Doire Colmcille

Tyrone / Tir Eoghain

County Tyrone:

The name comes from the Gaelic "Tír Eoghain", which means "the land of Eoghan".

Eoghan was a 6th-century king of Dal Riata who controlled much of modern-day Londonderry, Donegal, and Antrim. Need More Info? (Nigel) founded what would become Northern Ireland in AD 430. The two were fierce rivals and eventually went to war over their differences. It's believed that they never reconciled before Nigel's death in 463; he was at least twice as old as his younger brother at that point.

Tyrone / Tir Eoghain: Tír Eoghain is an Irish province comprising counties Antrim and Derry (formerly County Londonderry). It has a population of around 235,000 people with approximately 60% living in Antrim county; this makes it one of the least populated areas in Ireland!
