Minecraft film 'set to hit silver screen'

The block-building game Minecraft, which is hugely popular, could soon be made into a movie.
Markus Persson, Minecraft's creator, said this week that he was speaking to Warner Brothers about the game.
Persson claimed he released the news to stop another person trying to leak information about the deal.
Movie news site Deadline reported that one of the producers for the Lego Movie is in charge of the project.

Deadline reported that Warner planned to make a "live-action" movie of the game.
Work on the film is at a very early stage as Warner only recently acquired the rights to use Minecraft's iconic blocks, characters and monsters.
The news comes less than two weeks after Minecraft creator Mojang took action to shut down a Kickstarter project seeking to raise funds for a film based on the game.
Film adaptations of best-selling games have a rocky history in Hollywood and many projects never get beyond the planning stage.
For example, a movie set in the science-fictional Halo universe has been in development for nine years, but filming has yet started despite multiple scripts being written.
Similar films based in Bioshock or Gears of War or Metal Gear Solid Work have all been discussed, but none have yet started filming.
One game that is definitely being turned into a film is World of Warcraft, filming of which reportedly started in late January with British director Duncan Jones in charge. The film will be released in early 2016.
