Residency determination service; Anywhere in NC you need to fill out so you can inform colleges you are in nc for tuition purposes

Naviance: find, research, favorite colleges; match it with commonapp; request high school transcripts and teacher recommendations; and search for scholarships
to private schools or outside NC, apply as freshman. To UNC system, you can evaluate as either a transfer or freshman student - check at each school.
Financial Aid: GRANTS are better; don't need to be repaid. Loans are both subsidized and unsubzidized; always take less from unsubsidized bc intrest will accrue more.
FAFSA: Apply ASAP after Oct. 1; as long as you get by Jan its good. (needs parent 2022 tax return info) Awards are made until funds are depleted. Colelge may have own deadline for completion
Scholarships: check w/ each college youa pplied to for institutional colleges, check w/ parent employer + community organizations, naviance, Ms. Van Lauwe websites. CFNC is good for schools in NC. Search google if you have a certain talent "scholarships for playing viola" eg.
Timeline:
Sept: Register for ACT/SAT if you need to retake; firm up list of colleges, get applications, request letters of rec from eachers (send resume with request and allow 2-3 weeks) (USE NAVIANCE TO INFORM MS. VAN LAUWE ABT APPLICATION DEADLINES AND SUCH) naviance also has college reserach tools
Oct/Nov: Fill out applications online, write college essays, finalize college list, re-take SAT/ACT if necessary; submit completed applications for early deadlines if needed; start FAFSA
Dec: Continue submitting applications
Jan: SUbmit requests for mid-year transcripts, Finalize and submit your FAFSA, complete CPR requirement if haven't yet
Feb/Mar: Apply for graduation w/ CPCC if finishing degree; DO YOUR SCHOOL WORK - if grades drop, universities will be notified + admission may be rescinded.
Apr/May: Decide which college/university you wish to attend and send deposit by May 1 (national day for end of acceptance?); make sure you have reported all college acceptances and scholarships to Ms. Van Lauwe so you can be recognized at senior awards ceremony; GRADUATE :D; request final transcripts for high school and from CPCC

College applications has: school materials (sent by school) (ie transcripts), test scores, teacher reccommendatios, applications, essays, fee/fee waivers, interviews/supplemental materials (if needed), CPCC transcript (if required)
- Application, essay, fee: sent by student
- transcript, secondary school report form, school profile, counselor recommendation: sent by Ms. Van Lauwe w/i 2 weeks of request thru Naviance
-Test scores - requested by student/ sent by collegeboard/ACT, check if you can self-report (cheaper)
- CPCC Transcript - Request through MyCollege account
- Teacher Recommendations: Requested by student; sent directly to college by teacher thru Naviance (ask counselor if you want one from CPCC instructors or teachers from other schools)
- Other ercommendations : Added as an other recommender thru Cumman App and submitted directly by recommender
- Counselor recommendation: Complete request for recommendation form on Ms. Van Lauwe's website and she will submit thru Naviance
