About the Author
His doctorate is from Columbia University and he completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. A student of psychology at the University of California at Berkeley, he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in the field. His teaching and research experience in epidemiology spans more than three decades. A former professor of epidemiology at Columbia University School of Public Health, assistant professor of pediatrics and community health at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and assistant professor of health science at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, he has a strong background in health science. He then served as the Director of the Field Epidemiology Unit of Orange County Public Health (California). Eventually, he joined UCI's Departments of Medicine, Neurology, and Social Ecology as a professor. Professor and Chair of the Health Science Department at California State University, Long Beach, he teaches introductory epidemiology and biostatistics. As part of his professional and scientific activities, he has been involved in numerous epidemiologic research projects. A member of the American Public Health Association's epidemiology section and the Society for Epidemiologic Research, he conducts epidemiological research. A clinical professor of community and environmental medicine at the University of California at Irvine, he also serves on its Board of Directors. Thomas A. Sellers, PhD, MPH, earned a doctorate in epidemiology and postdoctoral training in genetic epidemiology from Tulane University. From University of California at Davis, he earned a Bachelor's of Science in Community Nutrition. While on the faculty at the University of Minnesota, he taught non-majors Introduction to Epidemiology. Current position at University of South Florida is Associate Center Director at H. epidemiology for public health practice 6th edition . Throughout his career, Dr. Sellers has written more than 150 articles, letters, and book chapters focusing primarily on the etiology of common cancers. The National Cancer Institute has continuously funded his research for almost 15 years. He provides many study examples in the text that illustrate the breadth and diversity of his experience.
