Minecraft Realms Vs. Minecraft Server Hosting

I know many people may be wondering how Realms compares to Minecraft server hosting, what features Realms has, or even what the heck realms is! I'll help the people out there who need some more info on Realms and whether Realms is really worth the money.



What is Minecraft Realms, exactly? Minecraft Realms can be described as server hosting that Mojang (creators) of Minecraft has set up in order to allow family and friends to play in the same world.



Minecraft Realms Pros



Minecraft Realms is packed with great features that make it easy to use. To start a survival realm, you only need to click 3 buttons. Then you can play! Realms also allows for you to play a few Minigames. This takes only a few clicks and you are ready for your friends to join you. Another feature that is very useful is the ability to automatically back up your world. This could be very useful if your house is hit by lava, or someone grieves it. You can also edit your Realm's name, description, difficulty and gamemode. By pressing one button, you can check how long you have until your subscription expires. Realms is very user friendly in that it only takes a few clicks to do anything.



Minecraft Realms Cons:



There are many good things about Minecraft Realms. However, there are also some negatives. There is no world editing. You dont get to choose super-flat, extra-biomes, or anything. It just puts you in a normal Minecraft world. Commands can be used in your world. However, command blocks are not permitted. This prevents you from creating server management machines. Another problem with Minecraft Realms is players. You can only invite 20 players into your world. However, your world can only support 10 players at a time. The minigame maps are great, but I wish there were more. Currently they have 5 minigames: Cake Defense 2, Blocks vs. Zombies, The Walls, Autospleef, and Dash of Doom. These minigames can be quite boring, but they are very entertaining. My friends and I would be entertained for hours if we had a wide variety of minigames. Another problem is the price. While 13 dollars (8 euros) may not seem like a lot, it is a good amount more than what minecraft server hosts offer. Realms doesn't have certain features that make Minecraft even more fun.



Overview: Realms is great if you are looking for a simple world to share with your friends. It is not recommended if you plan to make a server that will make money or host large numbers of players. It's also great if you don't know much about servers, as it allows you to easily change things with a few clicks. Strongcraft Realms isn’t the right place for you if you want a large server.
