Jason Momoa is in final negotiations to star in Warner Bros. live-action Minecraft film, the studio confirmed Tuesday.
Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre) will direct the film, which is based upon the 2011 videogame. letrastraducidas.com Momoa starred in the Warner Bros. movies Aquaman, Dune. The Minecraft news was previously reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Warner Bros. was the first to reveal that a Minecraft movie was being made. This was more than eight years before. The release date of March 4, 2020 was delayed by the pandemic in 2020. This date has yet to be updated.
Minecraft, one of the best-selling games of all time, lets players explore 3D worlds where they can extract materials, craft items and build structures. The live-action film joins a host of other videogame-based movies like Uncharted, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Mortal Kombat 2021.
Vu Bui (Mojang Studios' Minecraft developer) is among the film’s producers. Roy Lee, Mary Parent, and Jill Messick are also producing. Jill Messick will also receive a posthumous production credit. Cale Boyter and Jon Spaihts are the film's executive producers. Jon Berg is also a producer.
