Minecraft is an online "sandbox" game. Players build their own virtual worlds and experiences by using resources or building blocks. You have to begin by advancing through basic resources before moving to more complicated ones, but you can eventually build your world in any way you like.



While the prices may vary depending on which platform you use, Minecraft will never cost more than PS25. Chat features on websites allow children to talk to people with similar gaming interests. There is no way to determine who these people might be. Recommendation: Young kids should not chat with other players in-game unless they are familiar with them.



It's also important that children don't give away any personal information about themselves, or move their conversations to other online forums that may be considered private.



YouTube videos of Minecraft



A lot of Minecraft users view fan-made YouTube videos to improve their skills and learn new techniques.



Many of these videos are appropriate for children. Minecraft doesn't have any graphic content. However there are some videos that feature monsters, trolls spiders and zombies that children might find frightening. Some videos contain explicit or sexual commentary and some encourage bullying. Take a look at these videos to determine if you think they are appropriate.



Try searching for 'profanity free Minecraft servers'. Even then it might be worth checking the videos before children start watching them.



You can also activate YouTube's Safety Mode to block age-inappropriate content.

Reporting functions



At present, Minecraft does not have an immediate 'report' function therefore, your child must be aware when joining the server. Your child might be exposed to offensive language and rude comments when they play with an older person. Minecraft reserves the right to suspend any player who violates the terms and conditions.



You can report players by going to Minecraft's helpdesk and submitting a complaint. This is something that an adult may prefer to do rather than a child. It's a little difficult.



You can report any user who breaks the rules to a moderator, who may ban them.
