Kazakhstan could be a major actor in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Kazakhstan has been a key strategic partner for the United States. While peace is restored to the nation, Kassym Jomart Tokayev, the Kazakh president has made major changes to the power structure of the ruling elites, which has raised questions and concerns. Tokayev was named the chairman of the National Security Council, replacing the president Nursultan Nagabev. This has garnered the much media attention.
