-Carpet tiles can be laid without adhesive but to secure the tiles preventing movement installations can be carried out using a light adhesive which is available through carpet tile suppliers. This will ensure that the tiles are held set up but can simply be lifted and replaced if necessary.
-Like any other material, carpet tiles expand and contract as their temperature changes. To make sure a trouble-free installation, we strongly suggest unpacking and laying the tiles loosely on to the floor of the area where they're to be fitted. They must be left like this every day and night to allow them to become conditioned to the room's conditions.
-Vacuum the area to ensure that the area is clean. Also make certain the surface is free of oil and grease and any solvents.
-If laying on a good floor, laying a damp proof membrane is advisable.
2) Laying the tiles
-On the back of the tile there must be arrows which indicate the natural lay of the carpet. As the shade will often vary slightly from batch to batch, laying the tiles in alternate directions draws less attention to this inherent manufacturing problem. If you are employing patterned tiles or creating a chequered design effect laying the tiles in the same direction is fine.
-Now when you start to lay the tiles, begin from the centre of the area and work outwards to each wall. Make certain each tile is tight to the next and parallel
-When you reach the wall you could be left with a gap which can look unsightly, so if you move the centre tile slightly and repeat the procedure until you have a straight gap all over the area this will give a better appearance.
-Lay the tiles tightly and squarely to the neighbouring tiles, making certain you do not trap any carpet pile between each join. Fit the tiles which have to be cut last.
3) Cutting the tiles
You might have to slice the tiles which are close to the edge of the walls or about obstacles such as for example fitted cupboards etc.
-Firstly replace the tile nearest to the wall with the tile which is to be cut.
-Now place the tile you have lifted up against the wall tightly and use as a template
-Draw a line with a pencil around the edge of the tile that is furthest from the wall, this will then become your cutting line.
-Use a spare tile as a firm base to slice the tile. A sharp knife and steel ruler help to give clean cut.
-Finally, fit the cut tile and repeat the procedure all over the room.
