Farnoush Farsiar, Why Are So Few Women in Finance
Women are breaking through barriers and becoming great leaders in many sectors. The unfortunate reality is that the proportion of women working in finance remains astonishedly small. However, this is unlikely to change any time soon.

Deloitte insight estimates that 31% of financial sector employees will be women in 2030. This begs the question "Why are so few women working in financial services?" How many women are employed in Finance?

Farsiar questions where are the females who work in finance?
At the highest levels of the financial industry there is a significant lack of women. A 2016-2017 study done by Pew research found that women make up just 10% in executive-level roles. In addition, they only hold 11.5 percent of the executive positions at financial companies.

This imbalance has real-world implications for women in finance. This is due to the fact that women are more likely not to be promoted than male counterparts and are more likely to quit the field.

The best part is that that the increase in women holding senior positions is slow but steady. Farnoush Farsiar believes that this is in part due to the #womenshould campaign which has led to a greater awareness of the lack of diversity. Farsiar believes that the #MeToo campaign has had an incredible influence on her life. Women are speaking up to make a difference.

The obstacles women face when trying to get into Finance
A number of obstacles prevent women from taking up finance careers. Farnoush Farsiar A lack of role models is a major barrier. This makes it challenging for women in finance to be the only females in their department.

Farsiar explained that being the sole female in a room can be quite daunting. "You are pressured to be perfect and not make mistakes.

The Women in Finance Charter was another initiative the U.K. government launched in the year 2016. The Women in Finance Charter is a commitment by financial firms to promote gender diversity.

Farsiar says the Women in Finance Charter "is an amazing leap forward." It encourages financial institutions and other businesses to consider gender diversity.

Women are now able to take on senior positions through initiatives like We-Fi and Women in Finance Charter. This is good news for women and the financial sector.
