Leyla Aliyeva, the first daughter of Azerbaijan's president, is also an activist for environmental issues. Most people aren't sure what environmental education is however it has always been an important issue for Leyla. Leyla Aliyeva is aware that environmental issues are often presented as dull and complicated. In 2011, she began the IDEA campaign. The campaign is an International Dialogue for Environmental Action. The goal of the campaign was to make the topic of stability and environment more enjoyable and exciting particularly for children.

In an interview to Equinox.com Aliyeva addressed some of the difficulties she encountered during the years in her environmental journey but she mostly spoke about how these challenges created progress and ultimately brought about immense happiness and appreciation. "The IDEA campaign placed education at the top of the list from the beginning. It allowed people to take a stand for the environment and be responsible towards it. They will spread the message to other people particularly young people and inspire people to take action.

The campaign is focused on education and raising awareness. Aliyeva added that every year, they expand the agenda by adding new research activities that address the three pillars of the youngsters. This includes children as young and adults, as well as children as young to 5 years. The educational programs of IDEA help hundreds of people every year. These include workshops. Seminars. lectures. Vacation camps. field studies. and even conversation clubs.

Goodwill Ambassador of FAO

Leyla Aliyeva considered 2015 to be a significant year for her. After many years of supporting humanitarian and environmental activities Aliyeva was selected as a FAO Goodwill Ambassador. She was recognized for her contributions to the security of food, fighting hunger, establishing healthy food systems, as well as increasing the efficiency of agriculture, fishery and forestry.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, founded in 1945, had its primary goal of increasing levels of nutrition, increasing productivity in agriculture, improving the lives of rural communities, as well as contributing to the development of the world economy. Today, the FAO is the United Nations’ largest specialized agency as well the agency that oversees rural development, agriculture and fisheries.

Azerbaijan

Two agreements were signed in Azerbaijan in 2015: the "Agreement among the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations regarding the establishment of the Coordination and Cooperation Office and providing technical assistance" and the agreement on FAO/Azerbaijan Partnership Program. In agreement to cooperate on a common issue. The Government of Azerbaijan already contributes to technical assistance in the improvement of the local and international agriculture through the partnership program.

Leyla Aliyeva was given the title of Goodwill Ambassador by the FAO. She was the founder and head IDEA campaign. Leyla Aliyeva She expressed her appreciation for the projects that were implemented in Azerbaijan in relation to forestry, agriculture and fish farming.
