The circular motion would hinder your attack enough to minimalise potential harsh blows.

Before her adversary could react she dashed towards you, her blade being rotated from a horizontal strike into a vertical slice. The blade cut through the air with a sharp, whistling sound.

With a steady grip on her katana, she stepped closer to the log and lifted her weapon high above her head.
With a swift, smooth motion she bought down the blade down on the log, carving it in two as if it was a piece of paper. The sharp katana sliced through the wood with ease, leaving a clean smooth cut.
