This allows an AI to perform their task. The Facebook team believes that even if their AI isn't able to complete all tasks, it will be useful. "We believe we can build an efficient assistant without needing to be able to succeed in every single request," they say.
However, it's not easy. One of the biggest hurdles is understanding ordinary language. The Facebook team imagines the following scenario:
PLAYER: build a 15-block tall tower and then put a gigantic smiley on top ASSISTANT: OK
This seemingly simple request is actually a huge amount of information. The assistant must understand the concept of a "tower" and how to construct one, understand that "15 blocks high" is a measure of the height of the tower and also know what "15" is. The assistant must also know the meaning of smiley, and how to build it and what it means to put it on the top.
However, the possibilities for an AI to learn are endless. If Facebook is able to get enough human input the AI could seek out humans to help it learn.

Facebook has set its sights on developing the AI that will self-improve. One of the most frequent criticisms of AI systems is that they do not learn new tasks that are not for which they are trained and for which data is gathered and processed. However, researchers believe that the Minecraft environment is a great one to create this kind of learning.
This is an interesting piece that outlines an objective for Facebook. It's early days. The work is described by the team as an "call for arms."
