Companies That Offshore
Offshore outsourcing can be a valuable instrument to help businesses locate niche talent. It can also lower the cost of labor, boost the company's revenue, and boost its competitiveness.
However, companies that offshore have to be aware of the risks that come with. Designing and manufacturing offshore, along with manufacturing can deprive a firm of its design and engineering capabilities.
Telstra
Telstra has come a long way from its humble beginnings in the form of an unassuming government-owned company. Today, it is a massive private telecommunications firm that operates across the globe. It is also Australia's biggest fixed-line telephony provider.
The company's success is attributed to its innovative solutions and an effective investment strategy. In the midst of a shortage of resources in the early years, the company invested heavily into the latest technology, and recognized that the telecommunications industry had a huge growth potential. This was a smart decision, as it allowed the company to connect Australian cities both domestically and internationally. The company was also a pioneer in the field of mobile phones, which enabled people to stay in touch with loved family members wherever they were.
In the 90s, the company faced major challenges, such as regulation and competition from competitors. It was not content to remain passive and developed aggressive plans to adapt to these changes. For example, it invested heavily in infrastructure and spent $200 billion to enhance its services. It also re-innovated by the introduction of BigPond which is a high-speed internet service for users.
It also reduced its workforce and outsourced certain functions, which resulted in savings in costs. Additionally, it introduced a new organizational structure that divided roles into functional groups, rather than a traditional hierarchy. This allowed senior managers more control over their area of expertise.
Recently, Telstra announced that it will be bringing its call centers back to Australia and that by 2021, all of its small and consumer calls will be answered in Australia. This is a significant improvement for Telstra, and it is likely to benefit its customers. However, the company will continue to run offshore call centers for its major international business clients.
GE
Thomas Edison founded General Electric in 1892. It quickly became one of the most successful American companies. In the 1980s, GE acquired several large companies such as Employer's Reinsurance and Kidder Peabody. In the 1980s, GE's revenue rose from $5 billion to $70 billion. But, despite these gains many analysts have wondered whether the company's growth was sustainable.
GE concentrates its efforts on industrial technology, services, renewable energy and power. It has also invested in additive machines, also known as 3-D printers that can be used to create new products and parts. In addition the financial arm of GE offers commercial loans and leasing.
The GE washer-dryer is the top-selling product of the company. It has been in use in American homes for more than 80 years. It was the very first machine that could automatically wash and dry clothes. This was a groundbreaking invention in the world of household. GE manufactures not just appliances but also medical devices, aircraft engines, and generators of power. In the future, GE is planning to expand its digital business which includes commercial software and cybersecurity technologies from Wurldtech.
GE also outsources its main business processes to India in a country where wages are lower than in the US. Its captive offshoring business, GE Capital International Services (GECIS), employed 12,000 workers in 2004. In 2005, GE sold its stake in GECIS and made it a standalone BPO known as Genpact. Genpact employs 20,000 employees and GE remains a major customer. The company has recently diversified its business by acquiring the manufacturer of the Osprey drone. GE is also investing heavily in the wind industry, through a deal to supply the Haliade-X 14 MW wind turbines to Dogger Bank C.
IBM
International Business Machines (IBM) is one of the world's biggest technology companies with its headquarters in Armonk, New York. IBM provides hardware software, services, and hardware to the IT industry. It also offers financing to help its clients purchase IT systems and software. Additionally, it has research labs around the world. The company's innovative research dates back to the 1880s, when Julius E. Pitrat invented the computing scale, and Alexander Dey created the dial recorder. Herman Hollerith also created a tabulating device.
The company's corporate vision statement reflects its commitment to leadership in the information technology industry and market. The corporate vision statement declares that it will provide quality service by combining technological expertise with business model innovation. It also puts a top priority on customer satisfaction as well as value creation as it is the key to its success in the long term.
In recent years, IBM expanded its services business. It has also rebranded itself as cloud computing platform and cognitive solutions company. IBM's software portfolio includes analytics offerings like Cognos and SPSS. It also provides IT infrastructure software, such as the IBM WebSphere application server and MQ messaging middleware. It also provides security and mobile software which includes the IBM Verse business email offering and the IBM QRadar security intelligence platform.
The hardware business of IBM has been declining in recent years due to the shift in IT expenditures of corporate clients from on-premise facilities to centralized providers like Amazon Web Services. IBM has been focusing on its business consulting and service businesses and has made a number of acquisitions to increase their reach in these areas. The company has also invested heavily in cloud computing and has a global presence.
Accenture
Accenture is among the world's leading management consulting outsourcing, technology services, and outsourcing companies. The company has many strengths that give them a advantage in the market, including extensive experience and expertise in their industry, ingenuous technology solutions and strong partnerships with leading vendors.

It also offers IT and security consultancy services.
Historically companies have outsourced some production processes to reduce costs and increase their competitiveness. For instance, the apparel industry has outsourced a large portion of its production processes to Asian countries. In recent years however, more businesses have switched their focus from production of goods to services. This has resulted in a growing demand for professionals with experience in IT and digital services. These skills are also transferable across different industries.
Accenture has many clients and is growing in important markets. The client base includes 91 of the Fortune Global 100 and more than three-quarters of the Fortune Global 500. Accenture collaborates with companies such as Apple, Google, Oracle, and others to develop new technology. Accenture, for example has partnered with SAP to create an intelligent platform solution which aids oil companies in the upstream to simplify their processes by using market standards. A consortium of major oil companies, including BP and Equinor, is testing this solution. This collaboration illustrates how companies are shifting away from traditional outsourcing and focusing on services and innovations.
Microsoft
Microsoft is among the world's most successful manufacturers of operating systems and applications for personal computers. Its best-known products include the Windows range of software and the Office suite and Internet Explorer web browser. The company has been accused of unfair competition, monopoly practices and unconstitutional behavior. In the 1990s, the company began creating a complicated web of offshore entities to transfer intellectual property and lower tax payments.
When a client buys Office in Seattle Microsoft's headquarters don't reside in Redmond. Instead the money travels on an extensive journey. The money begins with a long trip beginning with a Nevada sales subsidiary, which doesn't tax corporate income. Then, it crosses the Atlantic to the Bermudan company which is taxed at the island's zero-percent rate.
The funds are transferred to a Puerto Rican company that accounts for research costs and passes some of the proceeds to an Irish firm. The company has employed similar structures to avoid taxes in other countries, such as Britain and Germany. offshore consulting companies has saved billions of dollars in taxes by using this arrangement.
Congress is now suing the software giant to change its offshore policy. The Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations said the company and other technology companies use offshore units and loopholes to avoid paying taxes. The panel is investigating claims of tax evasion by tech companies, including Google owner Alphabet and Apple who have shifted billions of dollars in profits into low-tax jurisdictions.
The partnership between SSE Renewables, Avanade and the Netherlands' Ministry of Infrastructure is part of a larger plan to improve the impact of wind farms on the environment. The partnership will develop digital instruments to better assess the effect of a windfarm on the local ecosystem. The tools will be tested in an aquarium and will enhance wildlife identification, abundance monitoring, and distribution analysis.
