Balancing Opposites in Relationships: Living the Quest for Authentic Wholeness
Relationships with others always present challenges for personal growth. We sometimes resolve the either/or choices in our lives by looking into making choices that shut us removed from our greatest potentials. Both poles certainly are a necessary portion of living nevertheless we realize that it must be in finding the check we have the full potential of an sacred Self. This Self, even though it includes our polarized dimensions, transforms and transcends those dimensions and causes us to creatively alive.
To let go while experiencing uncertainty,
To accept and rejoice in evolving process, is always to know peace.
The pulsing rhythm with the Omnipotent Yes-No
Beats just like an ever-expanding heart to evolve a Universe.
The breath of Life pauses neither in, nor out,
An affirmation of Life's dynamic balance.
Swimming in donna eden energy healing -pulsing ocean of becoming
I find peace inside the creative I AM.
(Ann Nunley, 1975)
Many people can remember the powerful representation from the masculine and feminine set forth with the tobacco industry in ads throughout the latter a part of the 20th Century. The Marlboro man, tall, muscular and wearing a cowboy hat and Levis, stared down here from billboards, during another ad, the sexy lady with heavy lipstick, a long cigarette holder between her manicured fingers and stiletto heels on her feet, reminded us that "You've come an extended way, baby!" The tobacco industry knew the messages would interest our need for identity and would sell cigarettes.
It is very important to differentiate involving the superficial characteristics represented above along with the more enduring intrinsic qualities that actually define the masculine along with the feminine. Superficial characteristics are stereotypes that enable us to feel "as if" we have been expressing who we have been. True intrinsic qualities are archetypes that reflect the values of your deeper, more whole self.
When we form relationships, we are often attracted to others who seem "opposite" to us and who express qualities we are not yet capable of express. I suspect we somehow hope that by mere proximity we will be capable to "own" those qualities for ourselves. And yet, might know about have resisted and repressed within ourselves is just not so easily set free.
My husband Bob and I are already married 47 years this spring. Being somewhat introverted, I was magnetized by his uninhibited expressions of exuberance. However, even as married I became uncomfortable with those very expressions. I found myself telling him what he "should" and "shouldn't" say and do - imposing restrictions for my narrow comfortable zone. He bore this with great patience. Then one day as I was mulling over my judgments and building a few more, the Oscar Wilde's phrase " all men eliminate the things they love." entered my head. I vividly saw and felt what I was doing and why. I pointed out that I needed to produce, within myself, ab muscles qualities that I had first admired in Bob after which rejected.
This experience helped me acutely aware than it is a lose-lose situation to question others to stop genuine pieces of themselves in order to meet our own rut, and our most significant creative act is usually to re-create ourselves by liberating ourselves from old coping patterns that inhibit the expression of our own highest potential.
In individually balancing the masculine and feminine qualities within ourselves, we are more whole and dynamically alive. Love expands our hearts and after that moves upward to bloom just as one expression from the Soul. We can then share this wholeness web-sites without asking these to fill in our missing pieces.
When two whole and balanced people form a partnership, their hearts and souls unite in the sacred synthesis, making a third expression that usually surpasses whatever either partner could individually express.
Our movement toward both individual and collective balance supports a real ecology to be from which we creatively secure the integral systems which we really are a part. As we balance aspects within ourselves, we expand our influence to aid balance inside our partnerships, our families, our societies, all sentient life on earth, as well as the universe itself.
