One of the most influential bands of hardcore punk ever. Suicidal Tendencies are known for their mixing of various styles such as heavy metal, rock and roll, thrash reggae and hardcore punk and funk. Their debut album, Institutionalized, is widely credited with changing the direction of hardcore punk in the late 80s. Their aesthetic, which was influenced by graffiti and street art, also was instrumental in bringing this style to prominence among suburban grommets.


Suicidal Tendencies' merch includes T-shirts, hoodies, fishman hats, and many more. These items are perfect for showing your support for the band at an event live. The band released their album Suicidal For Life in 1994. The band's most successful album to date was Suicidal for Life. The album was not a huge success, but critics thought it subdued the band's lyrics to accommodate the hip-hop/rap sound that was becoming more popular in music. Freedumb was the group's return to their original musical and lyrical style.


The following year the band reformed and the vocalist Mike Muir hiring lead guitarist Dean Pleasants (formerly of Infectious Grooves) and bassist Josh Paul to replace Rocky George and Robert Trujillo. The band was joined by drummer Brooks Wackerman, who had recently quit Bad Religion and later played with The Offspring and Avenged Sevenfold.


World Gone Mad was the album that the band released their second. It continued their funk-influenced sound, but it was less commercially successful than the prior releases. In this period, the band appeared on MTV's The Cutting Edge, which caused some controversy among fans who believed MTV was too mainstream. The group toured again together with The Mars Volta and the Offspring along with the funk guitarist Thomas Pridgen.


At the time the drummer Amery Smith was arrested for drug possession and gang violence. His arrest became the focal center of the Venice 13 gang - a local crime syndicate which is linked to Suicidal Tendencies. Smith is wearing his hat which bears the initials "V13" on the band's original picture. This could be an abbreviation for Venice 13. The group expanded to different areas of Southern California, and even into other states.



In 1998, the group released the Six the Hard Way EP and then followed it up in 2000 with the album Friends & Family, Vol 2. The following year Muir released his first solo album under the name Cyco Miko, Schizophrenic Born Again Problem Child, which was a critical and commercial hit. The band's final album was in 2001's All in the Family, with a cameo appearance by the country singer Hank Williams Jr. The following year, Suicidal Tendencies returned for a tour with As I Lay Dying and Lamb of God. Prime Cuts was released by the label they used to be on in 2002 despite the band's requests.
