The WH-1000XM5 comes with a similar headband and earcups to the XM4 but is lighter and more comfortable. They're easy to wear for long periods of time and are comfortable enough for commutes and longer flights. They offer excellent noise cancellation performance that blocks out most background noise, but without sacrificing clarity and detail. The Sony WH1000XM5 has decent bass for a pair of closed-back headphones. They have a superb soundstage that has a clear distinction between vocals and instruments.

They have a very low latency when watching videos which is a benefit. The lag is so tiny that it's almost imperceptible and they can be used for casual gaming. They're not ideal for video gaming competitively, but they're great for those who want to utilize them for entertainment or for making calls hands-free.

Sony is very committed to including smart features into its products and the WH1000XM5 is no exception. The active noise cancellation is among the best I've heard and they include a whole set of smart functions to improve the overall listening experience. They also include Sony's DSEE Extreme engine which upscales compressed music to close to high quality. They're compatible with Sony's LDAC technology which streams higher-bitrate music over Bluetooth.

2. Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2

Bowers & Wilkins flagship headphones which is the PX7 S2, have consistently appeared on the top lists of wireless headsets since the launch of the first generation PX7 in 2015. They are in the same class as Sony WH1000XM5 or Bose's QuietComfort. Its newest model, the PX7 S2, is an upgrade that takes the initial headphones to a higher level, with improved ANC performance as well as a fresh design.

The bio-cellulose drivers of 40mm in the earcups are placed in a way that they directly hit your eardrums. This delivers an audio experience that is more intimate than most other closed-back headphones. This is a bold claim, but one that the PX7 S2 delivers on. The vocals are clear and the bass is deep when it's needed.

In our tests, the PX7 S2 eliminated nearly all of our simulated aircraft cabin noise with astonishing efficiency and also performed well when we performed Mozart's Et In Carnatus Est and Sanctus from his Grosse Messe, demonstrating excellent insight into the dynamic shifts between the solo voice, the wind trio and orchestral accompaniment.

3. Focal Bathys Wireless

For audiophiles who prize high fidelity and are looking for a premium wireless noise-canceling headset The Focal Bathys are hard to beat. The Focal Bathys are the first ANC headphones from a French audio manufacturer to utilize Bluetooth. They provide stunning sound both in Bluetooth mode and when connected via USB to a device that supports true hi-fi audio at up to 24bit/192kHz.

The Bathys are stunning with their glossy finish and swooping curvatures like Focal's closed-back Celestee and open-back Elear headphones. The Bathys are made from premium materials like magnesium and aluminum that make them feel durable, comfortable, and well worth the price.

The Bathys Bluetooth headphones provide an impressive, clear sound signature. They are able to outperform consumer ANC devices of similar price like the Sony XM5/5 and Bose QC45. They can be improved further with direct DAC audio mode, making them a bona fide option for true hi-fi listeners.

Utilizing the Focal & Naim app users can alter their headphone's playback controls as well as the virtual assistant and Bluetooth pairing preferences. You can select between quiet or soft intensities for ANC and set the brightness of the LEDs on the headphone's ear cups, and adjust the EQ settings. The app is basic but offers enough functionality to be worth the cost.

The only issue is the active noise cancellation, which doesn't live in the same way as the other models. The Sony WHCH720N are a good pair of wireless over-ear headphones for the money. The noise cancelling technology is fantastic and can do a lot to cut down on the background noise. They are great for commuters or travellers. They also add a nice design that reflects premium quality, thanks to their sturdy construction and appealing matte finish.

They have a similar design to Sony's more recent 1000X and XB910N headphones. They have a slim headband with the typical ear cup hinges and a solid plastic construction. best wireless over ear headphones are light and comfortable, however they are a little too compressed to my liking. They come with a USB-C charge port, 3.5mm jack and a decent-length cable in the box. They are multipoint Bluetooth which means you can connect two devices at the same time when you want to.

In my tests, the CH720N's hybrid noise cancelling technology did an excellent job of curbing ambient noise, with only few noticeable blips when walking through Waterloo station and London Victoria. The sound-silencers did not block all sounds around them however they struggled with lower frequencies sounds, such as the rumbling engine sound of trains and buses.

The CH720N's Bluetooth connection was smooth and displayed a minimal harmonic distortion. I tested a range of genres and discovered that they handled the intricate interplay among instruments very well. It did a fantastic job of taming bass in rock tracks, and keeping the mix focused.

The Sony Headphones Connect App allows you to customize the CH720N's multipoint connectivity and ANC settings according to your preferences. You can also add a variety of audio presets. You can also activate DSEE through the app, which increases audio quality and speeds up the removal of compressed audio content.

The WH-CH720N offers a great value for PS130. It lacks some of Sony's best features (such as Speak-to-Chat and Fast Attention) however, it does come with numerous excellent features. 360 Reality Audio, smart controls and DSEE upscaling feature are all included. The only thing not available is LDAC Bluetooth High-Res Audio Support I think it would have been a great inclusion.
