Write a note in this area. It's really easy to share with others. ClicThe Market Turkey SAE was started by my Interest in showing a market animal. I researched animals that I could best care for including time , experience and cost. The Market Turkey SAE was a best fit as I would be able to give enough time, and care as this was the first time I had cared for a production animal. Most importantly I was able to work with my own money instead of loaning my parents money.

My first year doing the Market Turkey project was a very educational experience. I learned how to mange my budget , trying to pay for only spend for my animal project. I received some used equipment from my ag teacher to start. I was give one water and one feeder. As the turkeys grew they needed more food, which required another feeder. So from one water to one feeder , I invested in three more waterers.

From the turkeys start as week old hatchlings , to 6 week poults they grew fast. I kept track of this with weekly weigh ins, and kept preparing for the market at fair. At fair I was able to use the showmanship skills taught tome by my ag teacher . I was learned to show prep a turkey for the fair.At the fair weigh in my turkey weighed 27 lbs. . This turkey won reserve champion FFA turkey. The turkey was auction and was sold.

Through this experience I was not only able to learn to be responsible, but raising a turkey taught me real life lessons of caring for something other than myself.I have turned this project into a recurring income. Each year after my freshman year I have shown a turkey . I hope to use this experience to become a poultry vet , and to further compete with my turkey at fair until graduation.k here ...
